I acquired a 9K winch this week. The wire rope is in excellent shape the previous owner had it for show(Poser). I have thought about swapping the rope out for synthetic rope. It has 3/8" rope now, would a 3/8" synthetic rope be an advatage worth the expense?

That's a personal call. it's certainly safer, weighs less, easier to handle, and stronger. Downside is less durable, affected by UV, and expensive.

I think I was looking at around $215 plus a composite fairlead for 3/8"x 125' rope for my 8274...

If ya do swap it out I'd like to buy the old cable. I need a new piece on my towtruck.
Thanks
JB

5/16" would be more than enough, and it's on sale right now for about $150 for 125' at Peak Empire.

ya 5/16s synth is good for smaller rig, i think a winch cover would take care of any UV issues, and i plan to just sand/polish up my steel hause farelead

any web site for peak empire? thats a great price...

I looked up some rope on Ebay. The 5/16 was around $160 shipped for 100ft. The 3/8 jumped to $210-220 shipped. I'll let you fellas know when I get some new rope. I picked up a piece of tubing and need to start engineering a bumper. I also need to upgrade my 40 amp alternator and might go to a duel battery set up.
