Windows XP forgotten user password

not to thread hijack...

but i have a dell laptop that reset the password itself, therefore i cannot get in

ill pay $25 to anyone that can gain access, without loosing data

there is a kicker though.....

cd drive and USB ports are more or less broken

ive been told that i can remove the HD and run it as a slave through my desktop...im not comfortable doing this myself

Are you trying to recover the data or just reset the password? I can help ya with either.

I can get the data off of it for you, but as far as gaining access without a CDRom, or USB. That would be tricky.

Not that any of the "mega-brilliant" PhD's I support have done this  , but insure the NumLock on the laptop is OFF! Weekly I get a call from one of the laptop users saying they can't get logged in... seems 90% of the times, the NumLock is on... effectively changing the keyboard letters to numbers and substituting them within their password :shaking:

If he ends up going to you just pop the HDD in another laptop and boot from the NT Offline CD. Since it is IDE it shouldn't matter and you can then reset the password and shove it back into his old laptop. Windows will never be the wiser.

Hey now, don't be knockin' the Mega Brilliant PhDs.... :fuck-you:

But then, you also don't have to support me...

Here at the med center, all XP PCs are setup so that if you have Caps on at login, it gives you a HUGE warning messege. I like that!

And as mentioned, popping out the drive and slaving it to teh home PC is the easiest solution. Just need an adapter for 2.5 to 3.5" w/ external power.

get ERD commander, we use it at work, very good stuff. Resets admin passwords and the like. If you live close to me ill lend you my copy, im up by Briar Creek in Raleigh

Your "brilliance" is showing! XP is that way by default (not "customized" to combat all the PhD's)! :flipoff2:

Does your floppy work? :) I've got a crack CD or floppy. Or try what Joel said.

Thanks e'rbody. Got it fixed by going into safe mode, logging in as admin because the default nonpassword hadn't been changed.

Hit Ctrl Alt Del twice next time and you will get the standard logon dialog box. ;)

So, uh, what does Phd stand for? Piled Higher and Deeper, or Post Hole Digger?

I know that you have already fixed the issue but i Forgot to add this is another tool that has saved my ass a couple of time, just used it actually and thought of this thread.

Good stuff

I actually compiled the Nt Offline Password utility with Cygwin and run it from Bart PE as a plugin instead of running it under Linux. Lately I have been playing with Ulimate Boot CD For Windows which uses Bart PE for rolling out our new Citrix farm images. All the Bart PE plugins work with UBCD4Win as well although some of the apps bundled with UBCD4Win suck.

Wow, its like you're speaking Greek. I think half of those words are made up.:flipoff2:
