Wiring a CB question

I stumbled on a cobra CB to replace my cheap uniden one that died. The old one wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse. The new Cobra came with a cigarette lighter power cord. I don't really want the CB plugged into the cigarette lighter as it can fall out when we are bouncing around on the trail. Is there a reason to not splice the new power cord into the old power cord that is to the battery? The old CB is dead, so it doesn't matter that I would be cutting the power cord off.

There's nothing wrong with that at all. Make sure both CBs don't just have a plug in the back. Lots of them do have a flat 2 wire plug, you may be able to just unplug it.

As long as it's protected by a fuse somewhere, there's no problem. Cigarette lighter power is generally ignition switched, so that's the only difference between that and direct battery power.

Use the same wires. It is always best to wire a CB directly to the battery for the least amount of interference possible, especially the ground wire.

Thanks guys, splicing and connecting to the battery is what I will do. I will save the cigarette lighter end, may decide to use it one day, or throw it in with the CB if I ever sell this one.
