Hi All,

I have been searching the forum for help on electrical issues and have made some headway from previous posts. I am trying to get my 74 CJ5 back on the road. So far I have managed to conquer the headlights, and emergency lights. I have grounded the tail lights individually using a length of wire from the mounting bolts to a cleaned spot on the frame with a bolt through it. I have done the same for the front signals to the grill. I have the backup lights, rear side markers and taillights run with 3 seperate grounds to the same bolt. So there is one per side on the rear.

Problems:

1) Applying the brakes causes all the lights except the headlights to light up.

2) Left Turn signal causes everything to flash.

3) Right turn signal blinks just the right rear taillight.

4) The signal lights or brake lights don't work when the headlights are on.

I think I am close as at least I am getting power but I am getting frustrated. I have also replaced the headlight switch and cleaned all the connections.

Any help is appreciated.

Mike

Is it factory lights, switches, and wiring or aftermarket?

Well first id get all new bulbs, and make sure you have the right bulbs for the sockets they are in.... this could deff be the cause to all the problems....

If not, then you haveta trace down your wires to make sure that they arent crossed with one another....

All original harness that I took the covering off and checked all the wires. They were all in good shape. The taillights, marker lights and backup lights are brand new. The front turn signals and headlights are original. I'll check the bulbs in the rear.

A lot of your lights run through the turn signal switch, behind the steering wheel. Mine was extremely dirty and caused lots of problems with turn, parking, and brake lights.
Just thinking out loud.
