wiring LED turn signal issue

I am trying to wire up some 2.5" LED turnsignals. Well I used some of the 6.5" ovals and wired them straight up to the factory harness and they work fine. I tried to hook up the 2.5" to the power and ground wires and it wont come on. There are only 2 wires coming out of the LEDs and only two wires that go to the stock turn signal. It works when I touch the wires from the LED to the battery so its not the lights and when I hook the stock lights back up the turn signal works. Why is this not working by just tapping the two wires right onto the factory two wires? Do I need some kind of relay? Ideas? Thanks!

LED's do not draw much power at all, so you'll need an electroinc flasher control module ( part number I do not know) , which will directly replace the flasher module in the vehilce

Also, LED's only allow current in one direction ( the purpose of a diode) , so make sure your polarity is correct when hooking them up.

Alright. So I have to wire in an extra flasher control module for it to be able to work? How would I go about doing this? Would each side need one? Thanks for the quick reply..

very carefully, read the first paragraph again

the new flasher module will DIRECTLY replace the existing one, you just need to figure out which one it needs.

I have replaced it with a factory replacement but still no luck. I looked for other ones that may keep the voltage the same instead of cutting in half but I am not having any luck and the people at the auto parts stores have no idea as to one that would keep the voltage the same. I guess its just time to try a few to find one that would work.. I dont know of any other way unless I am still not understanding what you are typing.

A factory replacement flasher will not work. You have to get an aftermarket one that will operate LED lights. They are electronic, not just a regular flasher. If the parts guys don't know the difference go to another store, like carquest. They sell the LED lights so they probably sell the electronic flashers too.

There is also a mod you can do to a normal flasher unit to get it to work. You just open it up and cut a trace on the circuit board. I don't have a pic of it but there are already plenty online. Took all of 2 minutes.

Ok well Richard and I figured it out, guess the stock flasher works... two issues were the low voltage of the battery and some wires being crossed from the previous ownder try'n to rig up trailer lights... But like I said everything works fine, thanks for the input...

try swapping hazard and turn signal relays.... worked for my yj
