ok i tried to do some research on it will it bolt right in i no the back has different uca mounts, are they wider than tj axels? are they different bolt pattern? thanks for any help

WJ = Grand Cherokee 99 - 04, Just making sure were on the same page.

Bolt pattern = 5x5 (5x127mm)
Track Width = 59.5 (I would say its close to a TJ)

Here is the rear suspension

So yes some changes would need to be made to the Control Arm mounts, TJs LCAs are straight.

If your willing to get new wheels, invest some time and money in the axles it can be done.

IIRC they have a different bolt pattern, why would you swap them in, they aren't any better than stock?

zj may work ...disk brakes is the only thing i can think of .and they do have the same polt pattern. the wj is a different bolt pattern and it has a 3 link in the back.

^What he said. Also, alot of WJ's and some ZJ's had the aluminum Dana 44, which sounds great, but isn't. They are known for eating carrier bearings in stock form, and don't have the stiffness to hold up well to a modified rig. If it doesn't have the D44, its just a D35 that you have to modify, when you already have a D35.

If its a WJ and not a ZJ then it would have an 8.25, and the D44 was an option.

I do agree that you don't gain much in the swap, But Adams jeep is not a "Hard Core" style wheeler, More a trail rider or weekend wheeler. I guessing he has found a WJ in a junk yard and is seeing if the swap would be "easy". The 3.73s that the WJ had is probly the biggest gain he will make. Well besides the HP30 and 8.25 over the D30 and D35 with 3.07s.

But it would be a ton of work for little gain. If your going to do it, Get a matching set HP44 and 9 with 3.73s or 4.10s for under $500, In the long run you will be better off.

WJ's never came with a HP30 or the 8.25. All of them are LP30's and either D35 or D44a. You guys are correct in saying that the bolt pattern is different, width (WMS-WMS) is different and the suspension is different.

Front HP 30 from a XJ would bolt right in the 97 and later XJ 8.25 would require the brackets to be welded on. The WJ rear suspension is totally different then the TJ rear suspension and the ZJ rear axle would need the lower control arms or shock mounts moved to fit in a TJ I cannot remember exactly which one I was looking for a TJ 44 to put in my ZJ when I bought it but just swapped a Ford 8.8 in since it was cheaper.
