Well I have been post questions on here for a few weeks about building my WJ 4.0L 42re/242. I have had alot of help and everyone is friendly and willing to put up with new guys. Even though I am not new to four wheeling or building rigs I am new to Jeeps, I have noticed coils are harder to set up if you are use to only building with leaf springs.
Well here are my plans for my WJ build-up.
I am going to put a Clayton 6" long arm lift, custom rock sliders built by Puma297, custom front winch bumper and custom rear tire carrier bumper, Kevins off road roof rack. I will be putting 35" mud terrains under my WJ so there will be some trimming during the build-up. I am going to go from a 16" rim to a 15" rim for more tire options. A 9500lbs winch probably a warn but not 100% just yet.
Ok before I get yield at about the D30 and the D35 POS, I have already thought about all of that also. I am going to swap in a D44HP and a 9" rear. I will have chrome moly shafts in both axles and I will be putting 35 spline shafts into the 9" rear. I am thinking about going with a Trac-Lok in the D44 and I will have a Detroit locker in the 9". I am also going to go with the True Hi9 third member as well.
Here are some pictures of the axles.
I have to have the D44 re-tube because the wedges are the cast type. But I am not to worried about that because I pretty much got the D44HP for free.
I will be cleaning the D44 housing and the 9" rear with my pressure washer tomorrow and premiering the axles. I still need to cut off the stock Ford brackets. I am wondering what kind of paint people have used to paint their axles. I have heard using basic spray paint to using the bed liner in a can. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if 4.88's are to low to run 35" tires on a DD. Can anyone help with this please?
