My future son n law, who works with a company that contracts for Bell South was in an accident Monday. One Bell South truck got stuck due to a water main break. Another Bell South truck was pulling it out. My Future son n law is a small guy, so he was directed to to go under the truck and hook up a chain to a sling. After it was done, he went back under to unhook. From what I understand, one Bell South worker give the Ok to the other Bell South worker to go ahead. Unfortunately, My future son n law was still under the truck! It rolled over him, rolled, and drug him several feet. He was bruised up pretty bad and has several broke bones in his left foot. Not to mention the tire tracks on his leg!
He went to the hospital in Boone after the accident, and released after treatment. I took him to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday. He goes for a CT scan today, and will have to have surgery on his foot as early as next week. HE will have some external metal structure outside of his foot. Doc said he will be out of work no less than 3 months!

So guys, when you are out there, use your head, use good thinking. Yes even a truck is a dangerous machinery.

I would hate to be the Bell South workers. Rumored that they may loose their jobs. But even worse, they have to think about this for a long time.

sorry to hear that.hope he gets better and is ok.i have seen something like that happen before.me and some buddies were in ure.1 buddy had is truck on a rollback and it was hooked with the winch.the bed was still on an angle.well another buddy was trying to help and went to hook up chains at the back of rollback and winch cable broke.the truck rolled off rollback and on top of him.i was 4 feet from it.when i looked for my buddy he was under the front axle of truck, driver's side tire on his legs and hog head on his head.he was lucky, he got beat and banged but nothing bad.sorry so long.i hope everything works out.

Damn, atleast the boneheads didn't roll over his head.

I hope he has a quick recovery....

sorry to hear about the permanent injury. Even worse for all parties involved It's a bad memory that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Sorry to hear that Chip! I wish him a speedy and pain free recovery.

From what I've heard/read about these metal "casts" (similar to the halos used for neck/spine injuries), they allow for much faster healing as they can be adjusted continually during the process.

Also, make sure he signs NOTHING without guidance from a lawyer! (cause someones works comp ins. is crapping right now!)

$$$$$

This should end well for him. Not that one ever wants to trade bodily injury for CAAASH, but in this case, broken bones 3months out of work and rehab, should end up in the 6 figures.

My wife worked for an insuranace company for a few yeears and was there workers comp administrator. She said if the facts stand as you stated (not doubting you, juts you know the whole 2 sides issue) they would have settled in a heartbeat for 100% medical coverage of injury for life and $250,000

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin'

Sorry to hear about this chip ...

And to anyone reading this, don't be afraid to step up in a situation like this and take charge... As with most situations there are usually several things going wrong or being done wrong at once and correcting any one of them could lessen the risk for serious harm..

As of right now, we are just trying to get him the medical attention he needs. Nothing has been signed. I have went through this before myself, so I know that there will be issues, and that he will need to have someone in his corner speaking and acting on his behalf. One of the first things the doctor said was he will most likely have issues with arthritis in the future. That for me says pain and suffering long after the medical procedures are over. Will have to see how it all comes out.

I hope it's a quick recovery. When I was doing some field training in Cali we had a Marine get ran over by an AAV at night. The AAV's weren't suppose to be moving. Well that guy was super lucky and was laying in soft/loose dirt so it only broke his leg in multiple places. He screamed so loud all training stopped instantly. They medivac'd him out. The bad part is he is military so who knows if he got fixed right or not. I hope your future son gets well fast.

Chip, sorry to hear about that. Speedy recovery to him though broken bones are a pain I had my first one last year and hope to never have another. I can recommend a great ortho up here in Winston if there is a need.

I got the tip of my thumb mashed/pinched/cut when I was a teenager. Me and a buddy took a tractor to a local fishing hole, to get there was through a tobacco field (NC red clay mud). His brother later showed up in a 2WD Toyota pickup, needless to say he got stuck. I got under the truck, somehow it lost grip and slid backwards, the slack came out of the chain and the tip of my thumb was between the chain hook and the frame of the truck.... Didn't lose it but it went throught the bone, if you pulled at it a little bit you could actually see the bonce......

Poor judgement on my behalf..... (Young and dumb)

Bad luck.... what were the odds of the truck sliding in the few seconds I had my hand there....
