Hey all, At work I need to start keeping better track of my off hour (OT) time spent on various tasks/projects. Nothing to deep but just to the 30min level.

Problem is I don't want to use a SW based app. Many times I'm working at home reading reports, docs, books etc.. And I don't want to waste 10min starting my laptop to record it. Or I take a call/page while driving etc. and I'd like to quickly record it when I stop etc...

The only simple thing I can come up with is a .$99 pocket sized spiral notepad I can keep in my bag, readily available to update.. Hopefully get a year on 1 pad.

My work week starts Sat. midnight -> Friday midnight.

So I'm thinking simply start new page for that week when I make the first entry for the week (~usually Monday am) And jot down the time/task etc.. brief desc. if needed. Some weeks would be little or no entries, others could run 3-4pages np..

That said, any other ideas ? Tips ? formatting that might be helpful ? Any products out there that might help?

Thanks

I know it doesn't help but I just made an excel worksheet to do the same thing. Used to use a spiral in my backpocket when I did field work and it just sucks if you lose it, gets wet, etc. Consider getting a small palm or pocket pc? You can get a dirt cheap palm @ tiger direct

I have a form that I made up on excel to keep up with my service calls. I keep a bunch of copies in a clipboard, use a new sheet each day. Then they go into a binder so I can easily look back at such-and such a date and see where I was. Made for 15-minute increments, makes it easy to track different projects, admin time, sales time, etc. Invoices are made off of these time-sheets.

I'll find it...pm me your email address and I'll send you a copy.

I used to have to keep up with such things and a small spriral note book would loose it's pages, so I went to using spiral bound note cards.

I made my own pad of paper with my own time tracking layout on it. Divided into 15 minute increments, with an area in the first column to record the client/job number, second column is the Date. third column which stretches the rest of the page is where my time is broken down into 15min increments. I just circle the start time when I start, and the end when I'm done, and draw a line from one to the other.
This is handy when I may work on a project several times throughout the day. I just look at the job number and all my time is in the same area for that day. I don't have to flip thru pages to find all of it.

For those you with the pocket notebooks shedding pages or getting wet... search for "Rite in the Rain" brand binders. We used them in the caves under some pretty "damp" conditions. A fine line Sharpie does well, or you can buy they're "special" pen...

Granted, a little more $ than dimestore versions, but the pages are similar to Tyvec and don't tear out easily or become soggy. Covers are heavy plastic & doesn't dogear like cardboard...

Thats cool I'm going to get that for the shooting range and to put in the mortar box......

My boss keeps a monthly desk calendar, and she jots down the hours spent on each thing before she goes home for the day..

I'm a semi-driver and if you get a DOT book you can keep track of yourself 15min. at a time.

I would kill the SOB who came up with them with a 2x4 but it may help you.

Old leather "Think" note pad

There was a reason you use to be able to get those little pocket size "Think" note pads. It was the original "Think" Pad before it became an electronic thing.
