Last night was the worst night i've had in a while.
My driver side rear tire and wheel on the 4runner fell off and took off down the road. I know what you're thinking, i didn't remember to put on my lug nuts or didn't torque them down right. Wrong. last week did new brakes and torqued all the lug nuts down. No problems for a week. Then last night I go to Franklin st in chapel hill for pizza with some friends, and I had to park in the back of a kinda shady lot. Come back about 20 min to head home, and I notice a weird vibration. I knew something was up so I was planning on pulling off at the street that was comming up about a half mile down the road. Then i hit a bump and the vibration got horrible. Looked in the mirror to see the wheel wobbling like crazy. Tried to stop and pull over immediately and then pop there goes the wheel, taking off down the road while I dropped down onto the axle and slid off the road and up a curb onto a sidewalk. That was the worst sound i've ever heard. Had to walk a very long distance down the road to find my wheel. THANK GOD it didn't hit anything or anybody. So it was sitting on the drum with a real nice scrape mark in the street leading all the way up to it.
At this point i'm thinking "shit i'm an idiot did i forget to tighten this wheel down?" got a friend with a jack and 4way to come help me. Jacked it up and put the wheel back on, which is now useless bc all the lug holes are oval shaped. I went to take a lug nut from every other wheel so that I could make it the mile back to my house, and thats when i discovered that my driver front tire, all the lug nuts were finger loose. WTF. the side of my truck that was parked in the shadows had all the lug nuts loosened, yet the other side was still just as tight as I torqued them down over a week ago.

so now today is damage assement.
:poop:

Had you been a little longer eating your pizza, you probably would have come back and seen your truck up on blocks. Might want to invest in a set of lug-locks if you plan on getting any more pizza at that particular establishment.

As the economy gets worse, so does crime. I can pretty well assure you , this was no prank, this was no accident, it was an interrrupted crime.

Had a similar incident. Got a set of tires put on at pep boys and they forgot to tighten them 100%. I got a lil ways down the road and pops right off at 50+. Hell of a ride, bent the housing to crap, busted the other rim from hitting the concrete ditch, and a lil bit of body damage. Got a nice settlement out of it but I swear the jeep was never the same. Hope the best for you.

well it's looking like the new brakes i just put on need to be replaced. Drum got pretty scratched up, and the insides got a lil bent up when it hit the ground and tried to come off.
I'm so glad I didn't loose the front wheel too, because that would have sucked and who knows where the truck would have headed

WORST NIGHT

I had a 65 gto with 411 rear end I was going down the road at about 50 when the rear axel on the drivers side sheared of at the backing plate, I vered of into the ditch safely ,the wheel whent on down the road hit a pot hole and bounced over a car comming in the opposite direction ,hit the ground and bounced over another car rite behind it .I could had won an award on afv with that one. JD.:bounce2:

this happened in chapel hill. And i went back to where I parked the next day and there was one of my lug nuts sitting in the middle of the spot next to where I parked. And another 2 not too far away.

Yea I had my front left tire come off goin 70mph down the beltline in Raleigh in the middle lane with traffic all around me this past fall, tire went on down the road I coasted off to the right, sent traffic in to a swerving frenzy, didn't hit anyone was pretty surprised. But my failure was due to crappy 2 piece 8 lug adapters :shaking:

But it def sounds like someone was trying to jack your tires, might wanna try something similar to this: my Grandma's Brother (not sure what that makes him to me - great uncle?) did that when tools kept going missin from his truck toolbox when he used to run a construction Co. Threw a couple rattle snakes in the box and waited for the screams, had the police arrest the guy from the hospital and he got paid back for all the tools that had gone missing. This was back in the day when you could get away with things like that w/o getting sued

Ratlesnakes...your great uncle was pissed off. Iam sure no one messed with his truck anymore. Also hard to use gaurd snakes for wheels. hard to stop crackheads these days
