Would you pledge to make a one time monetary donation so that the NC4x4 community can buy, modify and donate a trail capable 4x4 vehicle to the Uwharrie Forest Service to use for patrolling the OHV trails at Uwharrie National Forest?

We are not asking for money now. This is simply a poll to judge interest.

In a heartbeat. Anything that will help keep trails open and in good shape.

Yep,I'd even volunteer time to help build it.

Would rather donate other parts/equipment then money, but a few bucks here and there could be done.

Im up or this and some wrench time but I believe taxes should help out with this to.

why do they need a patrol trail rig? and why cant they buy it we pay to ride down there where does all that money go? if they want to patrol areas of ure they need to get horses or use there suvs they will make it almost everywhere in ure.

This is the wrong thread for this line of questions. Please keep to the topic of wether you will or will not donate time or money.

Some cash and wrench time for me.

I didnt select an option...but Id be in for a chunk personally...plus Id be down for an ECORS sponsored fund raiser as well....

i would donate some..id also be down to help with some wrenching...im not very good at fab work but i can hold the shit out of a flash light...lol

what do we spend our weekends up there doing? every can i see i grab. trails seem fine to me.......

JC as I said, I'd be down with some money. Also the shop time and space is still open for this project.....

I am trying to remember back to when I was talking with Rodney at the past work day about donated stuff. We were talking about equipment, trailers, etc. He said something about a trailer that was going to be donated. The company donating it had to put their sticker on it, so they coudln't take it. The FS can't endorse companies etc by having their stickers/names on equipment etc. When I am up there tomorrow I will find out if it only applies to companies, or websites, everything else, etc.

Okay I just talleyed the votes, so far we have $696.00 pledged!:D
I think a 4x4 swap meet would be a good way to raise money.

NO!!!..... In a nutshell, I have been involved in this sport/hobby for about 15 years (less than some, more than many) and I simply do not think donating a vehicle to the FS makes any sense. During my years of involvement, I have donated many hours of my time, and equipment, to the FS (particularly Uwharrie). During that same period of time, I was also very much aware of the countless thousands of hours (labor & equipment), and probably dollars, donated by SFWDA toward the upkeep of Tellico. What did that effort accomplish?

Do I want to see the trails stay open? YES!... Absolutely YES!!! BUT, the facts remain as they are.

To be perfectly clear, I am not in any way against the FS. In fact, I know many of the Uwharrie Rangers quite well, at least the ones who have been here for a while. It was a pleasure working with them, and I can remember a lot of good times over the years. I look forward to doing it some more.

In addition, I think Deborah Walker has been nothing short of a "breath-of-fresh-air" for Uwharrie. In fact, I have probably told her that (in one way or another) more than once. However, the fact remains that Uwharrie is a National Forest that is managed by none other than the U.S. Federal Government.

Deborah (nice lady) and all those Rangers (nice folks) are nothing more than employees of a "higher-power" which is none other than U.S Government. That being said, your trails are NOT safe from anything... regardless of your efforts, or donations.

My suggestion is to all is to attend some the workdays, and make sure you have a good time while doing it. Save your money to buy a home, feed your kids, or prepare for your old age. As an extra note for you young people, you WILL get old unless you die first. The U.S. Government has lots of money. They are undoubtedly squandering more of it as I am typing this... probably more than enough to buy a new Jeep for the FS to ride around in.

I'm sure some will disagree with me on this, but before you jump, take a good long look back (10-15 years) and then tell me I am wrong.

As an added note, are the "Equestrians" going to furnish a horse to patrol their trails?

BTW: I take heat and criticism pretty well, so have at it. :)

Here is Ranger Walker's response to some of the questions that have been asked about the proposed trail patrol vehicle donation.

The Uwharrie is federal and we could use the trail fee funds to purchase a vehicle. There is also the issue of buying a fleet vehicle with project money and the restrictions that the agency has on modifications of a fleet vehicle. We would not be able to get a trail ready vehicle because of the safety concerns and restrictions.

If we get a fleet vehicle with federal funds (budget funding) then we cannot make any modifications. Thus the vehicle will not be able to navigate the trails.

It's just a poll folks :) And it's not about what the horse people, bike people, gun people, etc are going to do.

For the reasons listed above as well as the many enumerated in other threads, the Uwharrie District FS Rangers cannot modify any of their fleet vehicles.

Of all the comments received at the New FS Plan meeting one of the most prominent comments from the OHV community was better patrolling and enforcement on the OHV trails.

In order to do that Ranger Walker needs a rig capable of getting out on the trails. She cannot do that on her own (see above).

She has simply asked if the OHV community would be interested in donating a trail capable vehicle to help expedite better patrolling and enforcement on the OHV trails at Uwharrie, ie. something provided by us to benefit us.

This would be a DONATION! Not something given because you have to, not from taxes you have to pay, but from the generosity of your heart. This would be a gift from those who are interested in helping the FS do their job in a better and more efficient manner. A gift to provide a way of doing that which is beyond the scope of their regulations. A gift which just might improve the quality of the OHV experience at Uwharrie National Forest for ALL users of the forest.

John,
Would they accept USE of a vehicle? In lieu of an actual vehicle?

Either way Im in to help out just a thought I have

Not trying to be negative, Just a thought, but wouldn't a utv like a rhino or similar with a utility bed and trailer (small trailer) pulling capabilities be much more effective for this? It would be much more nimble, easy to run around the trails in, and unless i'm wrong here would probably save gas money and repair effort over the long run as well . . .

Also I will say, with this being a company vehicle that will inherently - just like all company vehicles across the world - be rode hard put away wet, and most likely never maintained properly, I don't see an actual fullsize vehicle lasting long at all . . . think a utv would be a smarter option

maybe Ricky but a UTV would DEFINITELY be more expensve
