I've got a 2001 wrangler and have had it for 10 years now as a DD.The air bag light in the instrument cluster has been on for 8 of those years.Co worker has identicle problem on his 2001 wrangler. If your light is on,we found the problem to be with a burned out light bulb in the passenger air bag disable switch.DON"T buy a new switch . Go to radio shack and pick up a replacement bulb.Remove the switch from the console(simple), take the switch apart(simple simple) and the bulb is soldered to the circuit board.Just unsolder the old bulb and resolder in the new. Put it back together, reinstall it and that fixed both rigs. For 5 dollars(2 bulbs) and 30 minutes time,we fixed both jeeps.
The light bulb does it's thing when you disable the pass. air bag.It illumitates the word "off".We both had small children when we got our rigs and cut that airbag off for safety of a child in a car seat.Guess the bulbs burn out with time.
So if the air bag light is on in the instrument cluster and you don't have a light shinnin at you in the delete switch when it is switched off, that is hopefully your problem.
radio shack parts numbers:272-1154 (ones we used),272-1141( if the others aren't available) 470 ohm resistor (incase you don't want a light).
