I have a 93 Wrangler with a bad auto ( 3 speed ) trans and have been looking for a replacement- EVERY time I call a wrecking yard- they ALWAYS want to know the year- even though I tell them the part I need- I know 4 and 6 cyl models are different- and I know it must have a CPS hole/ bracket- but what I don't know ( for sure) is the year span of the trans I need? I was told it was from 92 - 02 (32rh) but I have no idea if this correct or not- after talking to one junk yard- they told me ONLY a 93 would work!?!?!? Another junk yard at least asked me if I was doing a conversion or custom project- which I told him no- then he said to be careful of the 4 and 6 cyl difference- which I knew. So....WHAT FITS MINE!?!?!
I have a 93 YJ all stock- 4.0 HO and 231 TC do ANY cherokee trans fit ( without major work?) TJ, JK, etc... I am about brain dead over this!!!!!! ANY help is SO appreciated!!!!:kaioken:

Since you have the 32rh in there now, an AW4 from a cherokee will work and give you OD. The one thing to be aware of is that the AW4 is a computer controlled OD tranny and you'll need a standalone computer to run it. It still isn't a big deal though. Google AW4 swap and you'll find out all the info you'll ever need. Also, check out stu-offroad.com for AW4 swap info.

OK, I have found out that 1993 was the "chang-over" year- from lock-up to non-lock-up torque converters. Mine has a plug on the side ( by the linkage connection point ) so apparently it's the newer lock-up style- So as far as starting years for interchangeability I would say LATE 93 to- guessing 98..... possibly later but I can't find any pix of later model 3 speed autos to confirm connection points. Am I correct? or does the presence of a plug to the trans NOT mean it's a lock-up? Also- What year did they start the CPS sensor on the Wranglers?

HO motors had the cps you're looking for, so 91 or newer cherokee's, a few 93 ZJ's also had the aw4. Probably need a 93-95 trans. I'm not sure of the electrical differences of OBDII systems controlling the trans, so I'd stay away from 96+
