So my dad is 81 years old and after an entire life of splitting wood by hand he has finally (begrudgingly) realized he needs to slow down and get a log splitter. New ones are way out of his price range, so if anyone is about to sell a used one or comes across one for sale at a fair price around the Winston Salem area, please let me know.

I've been looking down here in SC and in my experience they are almost new prices for a used one. I'd be interested in what you find and what other people think. I'm leaning towards the 0% home Depot $1499 later this year.

There is a major project here at the office, by the time you buy a motor, lines, wheel and tires, maybe pump you might be in the same price range, let me know of you are interested.

Will do. And you do the same.

I had one for a while when a huge tree hit my house, but I sold it, which I never did.

So how much wood does pop burn? I know the work is probably great exercise.

Of course then I see stuff like this.

I've been looking for something like this but for the 8n it would need to be driven by the pto. Most all of them I've seen are for the hydraulics on the tractor.

We had a lower one growing up in the 80's that had 16" tires and was low to the ground, was nice to operate the lever was at a comfortable height, but the bending over to lift them up 16" sucked. (better than by hand though) Plus ours had a trailer tongue so we could pull it and not have to put in the bed where all the wood would go. That high would be difficult getting larger logs up higher and watch out for your toes. I never ran one but the Vertical ones looked best of the options. Of course having kids old enough to do it is the best option. LOL

This is what I'm leaning towards. Except this one more than likely. Champion Power Equipment 27 Ton 224 cc Gas Powered Hydraulic Wood Log Splitter with Vertical/Horizontal Operation and Auto Return 100424 - The Home Depot

Amazon truck. I have had several large items delivered by Amazon. A set of metal french doors, compactor, generator. They simply put it on a bigger box truck.
I live in the country. The drivers that deliver here often have a hard enough time with my driveway. Why I have no idea....

I tried to tell him just let me buy him one and he said no way. I had a similar situation with him and needing a riding mower (he push mows an acre of grass) and I bought him a used riding mower (which he said not to) and he parked it in the shed when I gave it to him and it has not moved since… 8 years and counting. So not trying to have that happen again haha

Step 1: Buy new splitter
Step 2: Split a few logs
Step 3: "Dad, you'll not believe this log splitter I found. Thing looks like it's only been used a couple times and I got a great deal on it!"
Step 4: Let pops give you a crisp benji for it

My friend has one like that I borrowed once. Nice machine plenty of power. That is $300 less than what my friend said he'd sell me his. If that were closer I'd probably go look at it.
