Wondering if anyone has first hand experience adding cc to their XJ. I have a 97/5spd without cc and a donor 01 xj. Plans are obvious. Are their any wiring differences between the 2 models that will cause me issues?

you should just hit it with your purse.

For one thing, the clocksprings are different. As are the brake light switches.
Aside from those two less than obvious items, I suggest taking @Jeff B advice.

So I assume this will be there show stopper? I have a 97 clock spring with cruise control on the way from eBay, can I use it instead? What's different about the brake light switch? Does the whole swap need to come from a 97-99 model?

Not sure on year to year stuff. But I know the 97-01 generation is very similar.
Come to thinkn of it, the PCM will likely need to be swapped also. The cruise function is controlled by it. Whether or not that strategy is programmed into all of them, I don't know.
I do remember adding cruise to TJs back in the dealership days (They're a carbon copy of XJs). The kit came with the servo, clockspring, brake lamp switch and wiring. I don't recall a different PCM. That makes me suspect the CC functionality is in it already. You just have to send the request for it by pressing the SET switch.

If it were me, I'd swap the column, servo and appropriate wiring from the donor and see what happens.

Keep us posted, my 01 XJ lacks CC and I'd like to have it too

I put CC in a 99 sport XJ auto. I swapped in a clock spring, the buttons on the steering wheel, and the vacuum thingy with the cable from the same donor at the pick n pull.

Plug and play. Works great.

Why the entire column?

Since you have an entire donor, the switches and CS would be free.
That's the only reason
Right on. I planned on just pulling the steering wheel and CS. I have a TJ with a broken cs in the garage the moment. Planning on installing one from my xj and then using the donor w/cc in mine.

For those who wonder what the insides look like

Phase 1 complete! Vac control and ECU lead were installed under the hood with 0 issues. Took 5 min. Now to the interior.

Everything is in and plugged in... And nothing.

I've done some reading and could possibly be my switches are 99-01 and I need to find 97-98. Not sure why, but now on the hunt for someone to park a 97-98 in my driveway for a couple hrs.

@Jody Treadway is there a difference in the brake switch? From what I could read they were the same pn

Ah I do remember hunting for an exact year for switches. Not sure which year or how they differ but my research yielded the same.

Ok, the definitive answer is:

When adding cc to a 1997 Jeep Cherokee XJ you must have the following
1) Vac actuator from under hood passenger side.
2) Clock spring from donor or new with cruise control. There will be 3 wires instead of 2.
3). Steering wheel controls from a 97-98 model. '01 will not work with 97.

I didn't have to change the brake switch in mine but that may not be for all models.
