I've removed the low hanging tank under my 90 xj and now its currently strapped down behind my driver's seat with all the lines extended. That works fine but the tank and nossle is a bit bulky. Im wanting to order a fuel cell probably 12-15 gallon to fit behind my seat in the floor board. should note XJ has no carpet, backseat, trail rig only. My question is im new to the fuel cell idea and i need some guidance on what to order and what fittings etc... There are tons of different cells available from JEGS to eBay and im just looking for some guidance.

The XJ set up is an internal pump with two lines going off of it(one larger one smaller) and some wiring, also there are a couple of breather or vac. hoses into the tank as well. Can i use my XJ fuel pump with the cell or do i need a special fuel pump to mate with the fuel cell? Also is the XJ system a std. fuel deliverly system or to i need to adapt/change it a lot for a fuel cell system. I appriciate any help/advise and pics..

thanks

Honestly Linc, fuel sells can be a real pain. Ben is actualy replacing his plastic cell with a aluminum one right now because it is acting up and cant seem to get it running right. If you are wanting to get into it though Summit has a nice aluminum cell and you can get the fittings from JEGs. When you get the fittings they are pretty expensive (blue and red fittings). You can get Hydrolic lines made at NAPA to save money and they work just as well but i am not sure of the sizes ect. and will have to talk to Ben. Here are few links to get you started.

my only input is to be very careful on how you mount an aluminum cell so it doesn't crack over time...

thanks for the input guys, im just exploring different options. right now its working fine with the OEM tank mounted inside the XJ but like i said its a bit bulky so i was considering other options. guess i could get a smaller tank from a YJ or TJ, from the J-yard? just another thought. i found decent write-up on NAXJA, but anybody elses thoughts would be great too!!

The internal stock pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank and will fail quickly, once outside the tank. Go to Auto Zone and ask for an e2000 fuel pump. It is an external pump that runs enough fuel pressure for an injected 4.0 and it cost about $50 or so.

Linc - Rich makes a good point. We're mounting Ben's with rubber bushings to the bracket to keep it from cracking over time. This seems to keep the alum. fuel cells from cracking at the seams. Give me a call and we'll talk about what we've learned, and hook you up with part #'s and the total amount of $$ Ben's gonna have in his setup with fittings, etc. Off the top of my head, you're looking around $160 in fittings & lines, plus the fuel cell, pump, and sending unit.

bigwoody, how much PSI is that pump pushing? right now i have a pump that is at 45 psi which a buddy is running on his tj as well as 4runner and truggy and theirs are all working fine, but this pressure seems to be a little off for my fues injection system. i think the oldered 4.0HO motors take a little less pressure like around the 30-35. either my pump is pushing to much or not enough. linc I got the socketless fittings and socketless line from jegs and a pimp inline filter that filters up to 300 psi. with the filter 6 fittings and 20 feet of line shipped was like 160. nate did not put any bushing under his first cell and it cranked and then while replaceing it we got it out of the jeep and set it on the ground and my roommate was grinding and a spark went in one of the fittings from about 20 feet away and it blew up which turned a 3 inch crack into a whole. but just make sure there are bushings at all four tabs and dont do the plastic, mine leaks like crazy thats way i got a alum.
