Okay so I have a 2000 XJ that I wheel a good bit and it begins to overheat after just simple wheelin'. Is there any cheap tips or tricks or just things I need to check to keep it from overheating so often or atleast so easily?

thanks, chris

Try a coolant system flush. If that doesnt work... Ive seen a handful of XJ's with hood louvers for added ventilation. Here's a few I found on NAXJA.

flush out the radiator good. Mine was doing this and turns out the radiator was full of muddy looking crud. Ever since doing that and taking out the thermostat its ran much cooler. Hood vents are an option, but I see it as a bandaid for another problem. These engines should run nice and cool when everything is working properly.

i used to have this problem with mine.. i blew the radiator one day and decided to upgrade to one for a zj with the 5.9l engine.. has not overheated since.. hoses line up fine

i would just take the thermostat out did it on my old 76 k10 and worked like a charm...or just double check that the current thermo is the correct temp for the motor

have you even confirmed that your Cooling system is clean and functioning properly? i.e. Thermo stat in good order, Cooling mixture correct, Coolant levels are full and no air in system. Water Pump is good...etc.
