I have a 1997 XJ with 4.0 I6. Stock axles and gears. What is the lowes gear ratio I can go with the stock carrier? i would like to go low as possible seeing that its a trail rig and would see very minimal road time. And where is the best place to get a new ring and pinion? Front axle D30. Rear axle C8.25

Thanks

i think you have the 3.55s and down. and the bigger carrier is 3.73s and up

Auto, more than likely 3.55
5 speed, more than likely 3.07

I believe 4.88 is the lowest gear you can go with that pair of axles.

I know I have a 3.55 gear ratio now. . .I am looking to see what is the lowest i can go with out replacing my carrier. would it be a 4.56 or 4.88

Thanks for the quick replies

4.88 is the lowest you're going to get even with a carrier swap. 3.55's are the lowest you can go without a carrier swap.

Ok So I need to order ring and pinion as well as a new carrier. . . Thanks

You need a front carrier correct. 4.88 is as low as you can go in either axle. 4.88's for C8.25 are relatively new to market but we have them in stock as well as case, and front gear master kits ect, or lockers.
