I have a 94 XJ that has fuel and fire and I drove it about a week ago but now It wont do anything the engine just spins and spins does anyone know anything that I could test or replace please give me some info

fuel, ignition, and compression are needed for it to run.. been running hot at all? and did you check fuel pressure or guessing at it? been through deep water? i'd check cylinder compression..

how much fire do you have i had that same prob on my 89 and replaced my distrubitor button and cap now cranks perfect
have you tried starting fluid or anything like that yet???

x2

Shoot some starting fluid in there. If it doesn't fire at all, then you have a spark problem of some kind. If if does fire and run for a few seconds, then you have a fuel problem or some sort.

Its a new cap and rotor new injectors new fuel pump/filter new plugs and wires.... could it be the crank sensor because I hear those go bad often but I also heard that they produce no spark when they go bad

Could be a crank sensor but before you change it try the starting fluid trick( just a little). If that doesn't work, and I know this sounds crazy, but try a jump start. Maybe your not getting enough fire. This worked for me once.Let us know.

Had the exact same problem with my xj way back when....its your crank shaft position sensor! get ready to lay on your back with about 3ft of extensions on your wrench.

For what it's worth, I didn't think the CPS was all that hard to replace. I went up top to put it back in. Was easier to get to the bolts that way. Torqued from down low though. I felt like replacing the passenger motor mount was more difficult.

Biggest thing to remember is that when taking the bolts that hold the cps on off DONT drop them into the bellhousing!!! as there is a large hole for the cps to see the flywheel and its large enough for the bolts to fall in......but i still say its the cps

get an analog voltmeter and test the CPS prior to replacing it. You will see it alternate between 5v and 11v while cranking if I remember right (there is a procedure online somewhere). Don't just go buy a new one for the hell of it.

test to see if its got spark: pull plug wire (any cylinder), stick screwdriver into wire, hold metal part of screwdriver away from block/ac/ground like 3/8", have assistant crank vehicle. if you feel brave, you can hold the wire in your hand =P

camshaft position sensor

I had a grand cheerokee come through my shop had a similar problem. It was the camshaft position sensor located in the dist.
I think it was about 40 bucks back then. would run sometimes then other times it wouldnt. just my thoughts it was cracked. make sure you get all of it out before you bolt in the new one

94 XJ's dont have a camshaft pos sensor. They do have a sensor inside the distributor, under the rotor. It is possibly the crankshaft sensor, I have seen them become movable, still throw spark, but not run, or try to run... they are fairly easy to change out.. just takes some patience. I've always started the bolts with my fingers from the transmission side, but its a tight blind fit. or you can stick the bolt in the socket with an extension, line up the CPS with the holes and go for it.. the plastic cover will keep your bolts from falling in if you miss..

I would love to see all you guys in one shop, dealing with this issue. Everyone comes at it with a different point of attack, problem is solved within the hour lol.

The plugs and wires were replaced before the problem started... I just replaced the crank sensor and still no start.... im out of ideas does anyone want to buy it im threw I do have the title

fuel, water, or oil pressure is very low now? reason i asked fuel pressure with gauge is the gauge can tell you if the fuel pump is bad or not, plus you can do a volume test.. also if water level is low, is it low in the resevoir or the radiator itself? if its low in the rad, how much does it take to fill it? that's why i asked about compression test on the engine cylinders.. not always will pressurizing the water system show a leak internal to combustion chamber but compression test will show it..
