Have a couple questions about my 03 Nissan Xterra. . . I used 4wd about once a week and after taking it out of 4 high when I turn to the left or right it makes a "popping" sound in the front. What is causing this? Also any idea what rear diff comes in these stock? Thanks

The rear axle should be a H233B with 4.90 gears and probably an LSD, unless you have a SC engine, then you'll have different gears.

Maybe one of your hubs didn't unlock after having it in 4wd? Otherwise it shouldn't be making any noises in 2wd while turning left to right.

Thanks for the info. . I have the 3.3 V6 not the SC.

Anyone else have anything to add?

If its anything like the frontiers, you have a broken hub. My friend in Ca. wheels a 03 frontier and has replaced front hubs about 10 times now.

Well I dont wheel the xterra much. . . i take it on the land where we do wheelin with our other rigs. . . aka 97 XJ. . . but i do take it up our main trails in 4 high. What is the best way to check that front hub?

uhhhh steep hill where the tires should spin.....If neither ones spins then there you go

Thanks. . .

Thanks ben. .
