I'm going to 4 link the rear on my yj and was looking at using coil springs for now to keep cost down. I am looking to run a 42" tire so trying to figure out what spring to run anyone have any in put please share. Also what is a good wheel base to shoot for was thinking about running waggy leafs up front to move the axle forword a little and then in the future link the front too when I can save up the funds for it.

You will likely get a lot of opinions on wheelbase. For a 42" tire, I'd go with at least 110", and probably no more than 120". It seems like 112"-115" is very popular for that size tire.

i've got 42's on my buggy with a 114" wheelbase and 24" belly height and it does great. If i had it to do over again I'd do th same thing.

Stretch the axle back 6-7" and use stock tj rear springs. Going back that amount puts your springs in the down slope of the rear frame rail. I believe Barnes4wd sells a tj rear spring relocation kit just for doing that and it should work just fine on a Yj.

Other builds I've seen they used front coils from a tj on all 4 corners. Would a stock spring give enough lift and would it have enough flex?

if you use tj springs put front on front & rear on rear
i would use stock jk springs front on front & rear on rear B/C they have progressive rate springs

if you put front on the rear it will be a stiff ride, ride like crap,& not flex good for there is no weight in the rear
JUST MY .02

Did something very similar to this on a yj I had up north a while back, worked like a charm. Depending on what you are going to have in the rear of the jeep, I would probably stick with the tj rears for now. The tj fronts will most likely be too stiff. I wasn't running 42s, but depending on your perch design you should be able to make it work or get a set of rear lift springs. With the tj springs your flex may be limited, but this will allow you to build it and run it until you can get some coilovers or get a set of coils made up for your jeep weights and height desired.

One more thing to add to my earlier statement... By moving the upper spring buckets back 7" on the frame you end up gaining a few inches of lift. Meaning you can run stock height TJ rear coils. With the right shocks the stock TJ coils have a nice soft spring rate that flexes and handles really nice. I know many people who have run stock rears on jeeps and they flex really nice. The way the windings are wrapped they can compress almost completely flat and extend just as much.

I'm running stock LJ rear coils on my YJ. I've been running them for years. They work very well. My jeep is ~114" with 10" of that being in the rear.
