yj crank delay

by buddy had got a 91 yj. when he turns the key over it turns over for like 15 sec before it cranks. is there a reason for that? is there a part you can replace? or just old age??

sounds like the fuel pump check valve is shot... Tell him to try turning the key to the on position, count to 15 then start it, if it starts right up thats the issue. The only fix is replacing the fuel pump.

I think they have to get a certain amount of oil pressure before they fire too, cant remember for sure though.
