I've got a problem with my 92 YJ. It has a 2.5 4cyl and keeps blowing the fuses to the instrument cluster. Nothing else will go out just the guages. All guages go out SpeedO, Tach, Volt, Gas, Oil, Temp & all warning lights. At first I thought it could have been a loose wire behind the dash. This weekend I pulled the dash apart and could find no loose wires. I haven't pulled all the wire apart and checked individually but none of the covers were damaged. It doesn't blow all the time? One fuse might go for a week, then again it could go for a couple of minutes as well? I've wiggled the wires around to check and nothing happens. I used the Haynes book to follow all wires and didn't see any problems. Anyone had this problem?

what fuse is in there?

Make sure that matchs what the book says. Seen where people put what ever is handy in a pinch. Might just be to small, but again check the book...

edit.... if its correct, by a circuit beaker type fuse, it will just reset if it trips..

Yes it has the right fuse in it. It's a 15 and I've put a 20 in it with the same results. The Ign/Lps fuse is the one thats blowing. I've never thought about the other type of fuse. I'd like to find the problem but might go that route if I can't fix it.

do you have an aftermarket radio in it? I have seen this problem before, the illumination wire from the radio shorts out and blow the fuse because it was not used and taped off when the new radio was installed

Alright I'll check that. The guages stay lit even after they stop working. I'm not having a problem with illumination. In other words, if the fuse blows the SpeedO goes to 0, Tach as well, Temp and Oil Pressure to. The fuel guage goes to full. Still sound like the same problem.

That happened to me once when i had it, i was washing the engine off and i think some water got behind the fuse holder. It blew a couple times that day using all the fuses i had, so I went a few days cause I didnt have any fuses to put back in it till i went and got some, then it didnt blow after that at all. Hope that helps.

I'll check but I've washed the engine and it didn't blow any fuses. I'm going to pull the dash apart next weekend. It must be a loose ground or a wire is grounding out somewhere. It does it randomly It hasn't blown in the last week but I have had it blow three fuses in one day.

Just a little advice in the future never ever go to larger fuses as a fix, you'll burn the jeep up an your house with it, if its in a carport.
