anyone built thier own tummy tuck flat skid for a yj? i'm thinking of making it from 1/4" steel but wanted to get some ideas.

CYJKrawler made a really nice one out of 1/4" maybe he'll post up some pics for ya. It just bolted in the stock mounting holes I believe...its been a while since I've seen it.

I made mine out of 1/4" and braced it with some angle iron. I also used countersunk bolts.

Same idea as Noah, a little more coverage. 1/4" with two 1 1/2" angle iron braces. Worked fine with minor interior trans hump modification. Plenty beefy, took punishment good.

thats exactly what i was planning on doing. thanks for the pics. now just need to find time to build it.

I'm a little more open underneath. I wanted some air flow for the exhaust.. I hang down about 1.5" in the middle part but tapper up on the sides.. I chose not to cut the floor and I let my drive line move around a little bit so i wanted some room for that..

has anyone made one that bends up around the frame and atatches by bolting thru on the side of frame?

Mine is a piece of 1/4" plate that has a 1"x4" piece of rectangular tube across the center that attaches the tranny and t-case mount and serves as a support. I have never managed to bend up the ends. I built one for a guy a while back that was ridiculously overbuilt and extremely nice with about a 2" drop, but flush at the sides. I suppose he has been happy with it because I have never heard back from him.

was it necessary to use a body lift for the flat belly?

Greg, stop by the house sometime and look at mine, I just did my flatbelly with no body lift, I had to cut a good bit of floorboard out though. I am just gonna weld in new piece of metal for the floor to clear everything and do my seat mounts off the cage

thx Lee, i'll do that.

you forgot to change the chassis designation too in your sig. Isn't it a ZYCJ-8 now?

I didn't use a body lift either. I cut a good bit out of the floor to tuck in the dana 300. I probably raised up the floor about 3" or so under the left side of the seat. Modified the seat bracket and used a piece of flat bar to make the floor strong again.

scroll up to my pic.. I have a 1" BL, with NO cutting, only a small quarter sized dimple for the one shift rail to full extend.

I made my own twin stick to come up in the existing hole. It took me a lot of time and planning to make it fit that way, but IMHO was very worth it.

Not sure if your ever over this way but it might be worth a trip to check out how i did it. Might give you some ideas..

i have a 1'' body lift, will i have to cut into the floorboard?

Depends on your drivetrain. More than likely you will have to cut into the floorboard to achieve a completely flat skidplate.
