I just finished setting up a yota 8" diff. I went from a 4.10 to a 4.88 gear set. I had to shim up the pinion 90 thousanths to get a good mesh pattern. Does that sound like a little much, or is this pretty normal. I've never set up any yota diffs before, but with this much shim there doesnt seem to be much clearance between the pinion and the carrier. What say you?

probly cant get pictures. I appriciate the info. I pulled another one I have apart to look, and like you said the carrier was chewed up.

.090 doesnt sound to bad for a Toyota. I have had some that are more...some less. Honestly though, we cant help unless we see a pic of the contact pattern. It just depends on the carrier, make of the gears, brand of bearings, etc...

when I pulled mythird with 4:88's the carrier had marks on it.
so did my 4:10's so it is close for sure.
