Yota front A-Arm woes

my yota's stock suspension is in route to the happy hunting ground and I'm looking to upgrade to a really nice trail suspension. I want minimum lift to keep the center of mass down. Most importantly I need to do something about the front A-arms which seem to have very little travel. I'd like to have as much travel possible so I can hit the ruts on the beach fast without contributing to the cranium shaped dent protruding from my roof. Done some research, totally lost. What would you do?

Travel + IFS + 4WD = Not going to happen with out lots of cash. Way more than a grand.

Travel + IFS + 2WD = Very plausable, not too much cash but at least a grand.

I know this sounds like B.S. but explain what you want to with the truck. If you want to blast around on the beach and jump the ruts, then beable to drive home and do it again next week with out breaking stuff go 2WD prerunner / desert style of rig.

If you want to go 4 wheeling too then thats a little bit harder because you will need to sacrifice travel and speed for the cv's in the IFS.

If you want an all around rig that will do it all but not excell at any one thing then there are lots of options to get more flex from the IFS for not too much cash but for the most part we are only talking a few inches maybe around 1-2.5 inches more over stock. But when you are talking IFS + 4WD that is alot of very useable flex! Keep in mind that the CV's are what is the limiting factor on your rig not the A-arms. You can get it more flex on the stock A-arms then the stock CV's can take!

So, at this point, 1st figure out what the rig will be used for and how much cash you have to spend. Do not think that just becuase your rig has IFS that it is a "P.O.S." Driver ability can make up for what you think the IFS lacks in a 4WD. There is one guy I know of who has made a lot people look very silly with a WHITE IFS Toyota on 33's. Wish the old fart would get back on line too!!

Oh yeah and a kid with a GREEN (soon not to have) IFS Toyota that has done the same, just not on such a grand scheme or level as the old fart has. :flipoff2:

I use my 4wd for 1) Blasting around the beach 2) Snow Storms 3) Really bad rain storms. I'm not really big into general 4 wheeling. It looks like I'll be moving out west in a year or so an I would like to do the desert thing when I get out there.

The goal as I see it is being able to hit bumps at speed without having to hit the chiropractor's office afterwards. Right now the suspension is so bad that my vertebra start petitioning whenever I hit uneven pavement on the highway. The problem can obviously be solved, Baha guys hit some crazy stuff really fast. But I guess a lot of them are 2wd.

I'm trying to look at what I can do before I add $ as a constraint because I have a lot of stuff at my disposal that I may be able to use to defray cost (CNC machine, lots of scrap metal, etc)

Thanks for your help Chris, the link is really helpful, keep the good advice coming.
