I got these joint. They look cool, but one thing looks weird to me. There is a groove at the base of one of the posts (on the right hand side in the picture) that goes about half way around. Why is that there? I don't think its for clearance, looks to me like it would hurt the strength...... I googled it, all the pics I find shows it but nowhere could I find why its there.

I be danged.... yup. I hadn't got as far as installation yet. Just opened and looked at them. But they didn't come with instructions oddly enough.......

I have not run these joints, but I installed a set for a friend of mine that uses them in 4WD Jeep class tractor pull. Dana 44 behind a BBC. Before switching to them he would regularly break an axle or joint each weekend. Since then (about 5 seasons now, zero breakage) we also installed CroMo axles at the same time.
