2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2L gas engine 256k miles. Oil pressure is tanking at idle, sometimes. Will be running fine then oil pressure will read zero and give prompt to shut down engine. No new tick or knock when it does. Just the same lifter tick these are known for. It'll beep on and off for a minute, and pressure goes back to normal with throttle application. It has plenty of oil and I put a new filter on as a cheap test. Any help is appreciated.

Pull the sensor and see if it has a screen under it. If not, put a mechanical gauge on it while apart.
+1.
That fixed mine.

The damn sensor is a PITA to get to on the top back of the engine and up against the firewall.

Cam bearings.

Good deal.

Just gotta stand on your head lol 😝
I remember fighting it..getting pissed. Convinced if I pulled the hood it’d be easier. Pulled it solo (fun) and realized because of the firewall bulge it made zero difference.

If it's not the screen under the oil pressure sending unit, they do have a bypass valve that's built in to the oil pan. I've seen them hang open and bleed off oil pressure.

Thanks for the info folks. I'll start with the sensor screen and go from there.

This is the one that came out of my mom's 2007 5.3 AFM yukon. It would have pressure at startup but slowly drop to zero as the screen plugged up.
