Anyone have an idea as to why my '98 ZJ would knock off intermittently? It usually does it shortly after cranking, engine hot or cold even in neutral/park. I thought I got some bad gas but I just filled up for the third time and it is still doing it. It seems to run great and then suddenly knocks off. At slow speeds it will kill the engine. At highway speeds it feels like it cuts off for a second and then back on, sounds awful too. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it showing a check engine light? It could be a bad O2 sensor or a cut wire on it. My previous XJ did the same thing and I had a cut wire on my O2. Other things to check are your fuel press reg or it could possibly be the ecu.

have you checked to see if there is a crack in the manifold?
i had one that would cut off if you sat stopped for a few minutes... the exhaust & heat was leaking into the engine bay... no lights came on, all gauges looked fine, seemed to run ok at speed though
