zj tranny question

i got a 94 zj with a 4.0 auto. has 242 select trac....wondering if it is the aw5 tranny or could it be another?? thanx for any info

its either an AW4 or 42RE. you can run your VIN and check out your build sheet.

I know for a fact that you could swap in an aw4... I don't know about an aw5, it might be a lil big, but don't take my word on that.

with the 4.0 why would you want an aw5... aw4 is plenty strong... has a pretty low first gear and is a direct swap in most cases. btw the aw4 only came in 93.
