Diesel in Gas engine

So would Diesel screw up a Gas engine? Or just not run/run right?

Long story short, Co-workers '04 4 door Rubi was loaned to a friend. Jeep put a "diesel only" Fuel cap on the filler. He had asked the dealer to replace it, but for whatever reason they hadn't yet. Anyway, friend fills the tank with diesel and well..... ya.

So would Diesel screw up the engine in anyway, or just need a fuel system flush?
 
LOL!!! no no no... I already knew about the wrong cap being on there.

Story gets even better. The owner of the Rubi drove it off a 6 foot wall in the Chilis Parking lot at High-Point mall.... and yes alchyhall was involved. It was at this point that the Po Po showed up, laughed at him, cuffed and stuffed. Had to call a buddy to drive it home and thus the rest of the story above.
 
I will admit to doing this once to a ford fi 302. Long story short we had to replace all the injectors, fuel filter, and anything that the fuel flush did not clean.
 
If D-C put the cap on it, drop it off, and tell the dealer "fix it"
 
Told him, I'd have the Dealers ass for that one!

I'm also curious about the diesel filler fitting in the filler neck on the Jeep.

I was just wondering if there'd be any long term damage, I wouldn't think so. Swap filter, flush system, new plugs and Injectors...
 
I had a foreign customer due it once she said she was exicted about how cheap the gas was :shaking:, it was a mix of diesel and gas in the tank, so it would start but shut off then not start ect. drained the tank changed the filter, got it started on carb cleaner and ran it on the hway for about 30 minutes never had any problems after that. the only reason i figured it out was that it was non hyw use diesel so it was red.
 
I'd purge the system, open/ unhook every line i could find, and spray air through out. Then refill with gas, and prime the system. gas is way more corrosive then diesel so I would be more worried about just getting it out of the system.

If the quick fix doesnt do it, start pulling injectors and soak them in gas the diesel should thin out enough to allow it to pass..

Run it for a while and change the fuel filter etc..

The real question is hows the jeep look after the big jump ?

The nozzles are 2 different sizes to prevent that from happening as much as possible. The diesel is about .25 to .5 in bigger in size. It really depends uon how much was pumped in and how much gas was in it. If it is diluted down enough it will run rough, but will pass. It will probably need fuel injection cleaning and definitely a new fuel filter. Hope it helps.
 
not sure about this.......but

i to have noticed the diesel pumps being 2 different sizes, but i have taken note that at the "big" truck pumps they were bigger, and at the auto pumps, same size. not sure if the diesel cars of today, (for example a jetta tdi) and the older diesel cars have the same filler neck as, say an f250. but either way, they are all different colors than the gas pumps. anyhow, at least someone stepped up to help this fella out, if he gets his license back from the dui!!!!
 
Call the brilliant MF's at the dealer where the Rubi was purchased and tell them to come get the Jeep and bring you a loaner. The diesel won't hurt anything except perhaps the converter and O2 sensors. Now would be a good time to demand an extended warranty at their expense.

The Dealer told himit was going to cost HIM $250 - $1500 to clean and flush, replace filter and Injectors!! I told him, not it's not! He didn't put the Deisel cap on the Jeep, and asked for it to be changed to avoid such a situation. They gave him the run around about getting swapped....
 
Can you prove that the dealership installed the incorrect cap ?


IF so, take it to DMV, tell them it was installed on the vehicle and is not the proper EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT for the vehicle, and that it has already caused an emmisions violation.

Diesel fuel systems are vented differently than gasoline systems. The EVAP sensors and such are also different (non-existant) on a diesel, thus making the cap vent to the atmosphere, unlike a gasoline system, which vents to a charcol can and the fumes are burned.

They want to get stupid, show them how stupid they are.

FWIW, a sharp inspector would fail the vehicle for inspection because of the cap as well.
 
Oh, and tell the dealership you are going to do it as well, just to see if they jump thru any hoops.
 
and to add to what Kevin said, call the Jeep Factory Rep and have the above conversation with him, you should not have any problems.
 
You can also talk about going to the better business buero. They will make them stand up and notice. Alos I just got my new jetta TDI it has a larger opening than a gas, and I think it does not have that little flap that gas has.
 
So, let me get this straight... your drunk friend forgot to tell his friend that the jeep used gas, your drunk friend couldn't take it upon himself to go to walmart and pick up a four dollar gas cap on his own?

The dealer should tell your friend to take a flying leap (and not in the jeep this time)

Actually no.... My question was, can Diesel screw up a Gas engine. Not What should my buddy do....

Dunno who pissed in your Wheaties this morning.. and don't much GAF, but he already requested the dealer to fix the issue. If they had, then he wouldn't have to tell anyone. It's not like he's blaming the Dealership for his Jeep not making the leap off the wall, after all, they advertise it can go anywhere don't they?
