Not sure how these people manage to operate in life. This is an actual conversation my wife had this morning.

Ooh that makes my blood boil.
I've had so many encounters like that I've gotten to the point where I just delete the message thread and move on.

The worst marketplace encounters I've had to deal with was when I was trying to sell my camper and I had so many people get mad at me for not wanting to do payments or something crazy like renting it out. Part of me wishes I would've taken screenshots but for the sake of my blood pressure I'm glad I didn't.

Makes me miss craigslist in the worst way; marketplace is nice but it's too convenient for the mouth breathers

I hate selling on MP. That's why I attempt to sell here first.
Still trying to sell our Freightliner. For whatever reason, it like 15:1 amigos vs gringos responding to the listing. Or a typical non Hispanic name but a Hispanic profile.
Same questions every time, same low ball offers, never show up to view/drive.
Anybody want a cheap flatbed? Lol

Sold my boat last month (yay). Had already met this guy once and shook on a price. Suppose to meet at the lake for a test drive the next day, and he hits me with this an hour before… Ended up selling it to the next guy for full asking price and didn’t have to deal with any amigos

On at least two separate occasions I have made a deal and both agreed.
Get there and they sold it to someone else while I was driving.

One guy would peek out the window and not answer the door or his phone.
Finally saw where he sold it ... I then called and he answered made up some story so I left. 5 minutes later on the sold notice he posted a derogatory comment. I went back to his house and this grown ass man told me to leave or he would call his Daddy!

I replied to an add for a trailer down in Spartanburg. Ad listed as 2023 Big Tex 14k with mega ramps for $4500. I ask about length and title. He says 16' and Bill of Sale and certificate. I could tell from picture its bigger than 16'. Start getting notifications about seller changing listing descriptions. Price went to $8500, listing title went to 2025 Big Tex. I send him a message saying thanks, more than I am looking to spend. Month went by and he messaged back me saying $4900 and its actually 24 ft total. Told him I'd come look at it on Saturday, I'll leave at 9 and he can send address then. Saturday rolled around, messaged him for address and and don't hear anything....messaged him and told him I was waiting on address before I leave. I told dad to go back home, and went to cutting grass. Got a message from him he took his dad to ER and give him a call. I was like no big deal, I'll come next week and check it out. He never gets back with me on that one. I never put any faith that they'll hold up any thing on their side. I could tell this one was a little sketch from the start so it wasn't a huge surprise when that's how it played out.

I have had people carry on like I was Satan about not budging on price. Giving me facts and stats and sob stories. I ALWAYS message them back to tell them, it was just sold at asking price 😅

A few years ago my daughter and I had built a nice 96 F150 4x4 shortbed. She decided to sell it and a guy worried me to death for 3 days giving me the “KBB” price and telling me it wouldn’t sell or it wasn’t ethical 😅 A guy flew from Ohio, paid her cash asking and was delirious about getting it. I sent the first guy a photo of him in front of the truck holding up the keys 🤣

I have also messaged multiple times and like 3 weeks later get a reply 🥴 that yes it is still available.

I have a few times gotten to the address and been told it was just sold after the seller agreed to wait and refused me paying prior to FTF to be sure item wasn’t sold.

It was comical my saga of finding a full set of 255/75R17 BFG MT tires from Jeep folks. These people are almost completely non-communicative for many days then one tells me to get there by xxx or it’s going to the trash 😅 after I have sent 4 messages asking when I can come at their convenience.

Just to add something more up beat, I once went to buy a weed eater tiller attachment, just the attachment not the whole weed eater off marketplace in cherryville that was listed for like $40 I think. Got there and it was an old retired dude waiting on his girlfriend to come so they could go out to eat, he ended up just giving it to me and had a few miller lites with him while waiting. 100% best marketplace transaction and no other ones buying or selling has came close yet.

The first volvo wagon that I had a deal on. Dude, never had a price on the ad, just make me a decent offer. Made a deal for 12.5. Get back with him the next day to schedule a time. Then decides he doesn't want to sell it. Then he lists a price of 16.5 on it, shortly after. After weeks of him dropping the price, it is pending at 11.5. Dumb ass

Before the Tramper sold to a standup family on here, it was posted on marketplace. Dude from marketplace called and talked to me multiple times. We agreed to a price, then he backed out of coming to see it twice.
A few weeks later it sold here, and I marked it as sold on marketplace. He had the nerve to call and complain that I sold it out from under him!

It’s because you’re obviously an A-hole!!!

I recently sold a really nice Kawasaki powered ariens ikon xd mower for my neighbors estate. I had over 100 people message me 1000 cash money dollars 2nite or something similar to it. The internet has ruined how people communicate.

Surprise, it sold for full price to the first person who looked at it.

Maybe I'm an elitist prick, but if I'm selling something thats gonna be hot I ignore any message that is (1) one of the auto replies without any editing and (2) shitty broken/random English.
I've found that to be the best filter.

I posted an enclosed trailer on MP yesterday around lunch. It was an 05 model and it was pretty rough, but it was rough when I bought it.We used it for 8 years and hauled all of our dirtier stuff in it that Tonya had bought at farm sales.By 3:30 it was sold.I wanted $2200 for it and some jake leg offered me $1800,tonya was taking care of all the dm's and told him no.He said ok if you chnage your mind were riding around w a bag full of money and will come and get it.Tonya said it must have been $1 bills if it was in a big bag.

I had over 40 in about 3-1/2 hours.I couldnt get anything done for the phone goin off.I finally gave it to Tonya to take care of.

This is why people like me begin to accumulate needless shit. My time is more valuable than dealing with these mouth breathers. I'll just stash it away til someone I know needs/wants whatever it is and I give it away for damn near nothing.

you'd look damn good in a Freightliner with farm tags

I've had that happen a couple times. I've also had people shocked when I say I don't need a deposit, if you're serious it's yours and I'll hold. If people would just be honest...

My two worst interactions as a buyer:

1) A few years ago, guy had a 6.0/4l65 swap out of a 2004 Denali for sale. It was in vehicle and listed as running/driving but with no front clip (used for a wreck repair). I make a deal for entire vehicle, everything he had left. We get there that weekend to get it and he had continued selling parts after we agreed. Seats, cluster, mirrors were gone. I gave him a little less than agreed and as I was pulling it on my trailer, he says something to my wife about the trans slipping. She thought i knew so didn't say anything to me. He had updated the post after we agreed to say trans was slipping...

2) I was looking for a 2003-2006 Silverado/Sierra and then started looking at Avalanches. I contacted close to 30 people and had one around Asheville that looked promising. It was a z71 with factory 4.10s. I asked my usual questions (rust, oil pressure) and was assured no rust and all was good. My wife and I drove up to get it, walk up, and I stuck my finger through the rocker. He said oh there's no frame rust, that's just cosmetic. We left and had a nice dinner on the way home since the kids were with grandma.
