Found an old 4x4 magazine today, gon'na see how old ya'll are;
Who are they and what did they build, or, what is it?

Hickey
JT
Burbank Suspension
Atlas
Desert Dynamics
Desert Steel
Derwin Diversified
Olympic
Heco
Eagle
Tensen
Aris
Cyclone
Hobrecht
Dick Cepek
Bug Off
Purple Hornies

Did you wheel here?

Swink Plant
High Rock/Southmont
URE-before the trails where you crossed thru the river? (near Star)
Sand Pits (near Eagle Springs)
I'll add as it comes to me:) .

Wheeled @ Southmont....'79 Cherokee Chief.

Had the Burbank Suspension 2wd lift for my '70 Sub, never installed.

Purple Hornies = cop magnet on a CJ with a V8

I've got a set of Dick Cepek lights on the front of the tow rig.. :D

Hickey used to make sweet steel accessories for my K5 (when it was new in '69).

Olympic used to make all that bling-bling chrome replacement hardware for CJs and others.

My mom used to have an AMC Eagle wagon. It really needed an AMC 360 and 30s, heh heh.

I wheeled at High Rock, also know as the wildlife in my ranger in high school.

Sam(slim)

I wheeled an old Ranger and an even older Bronco at the sand pits just below Candor and a few more closer to S.C. High Rock/Southmont in the late '80's and around the Uwharrie area since before I can recall.

Have wheeled Southmont (the "wildlife"), the sandpits, *and* URE (back in the late '70s & early '80s) before the trails were closed...

You forgot any mention of Desert Dog tires though!:D

Formula Desert Dog's that is, and Gateway Gumbo Mudders, Armstrong Tru Tracks, Safemark Big Kicks and Co-op Grip Spurs.
Jackman Wheels, Desert Vehicles befor it became Rough Country.
Free Enterprises glass hardtops for CJ-5's.
And many more.
I have many 4 Wheeling mags from about 1976 on.

I'm running Desert Steel shackles front and rear on my zook......been on since late 80's.

But I've only been wheelin' a couple of years.

Matt- :huggy:

2offroad - you sunk my battleship - Humdinger I forgot about, went there at night a few times after cruising Idiots Circle.

How 'bout;
High Rock off Stokes Ferry - went in beside the bridge.
Lake Jordon - before they filled it '80ish?
Concord Resivoir - my playground in my backyard, "the swamp", awesome place before they filled it.

Can't believe I forgot Jackman Wheels and Lights, Desert Dogs, Safemarks (got'm at Galloways around '80 I guess), Armstrongs and I still believe in Gumbo Mudders (they dug right when going down in the mud).
Desert Dynamics winch still on my Jeep.
Eagle lights on my bumper.

High Rock off Stokes Ferry is Liberty the fire dept is rightover the hill.
spent many a night at idiots circle.

I've got a Hickey Sidewinder winch sitting at home. Works great, but I broke the cable on it.

Big Kicks. My dad used to swear by these tires on the farm. I have only two mildly slick ones left. I wish I could find some more.

Dick Cepek was the first lift kit I ever bought.

My boss has a truck with a set of Purple Hornies on it. Sounds pretty mean!

My friend's dad has pictures of him at URE before they stopped making their own trails. Some of those places look pretty extreme.

What about Tracker AT's? Snatching with a chain( before I had ever heard about straps, but never broke one) What were those big pully things you could bolt to your wheels and use as a winch? I remember my first set of big tires, 33's. I remember the old Brown mnt trails, driving up Short Off Mnt. And many many trips across the old CC road.

Bugoff made stanless steel bug guards for CJ's Still have one. Power line trails behind Humdinger, Swink Plant, and the trails behind Bob Evans on Copperfield Blvd before it became so built up.

i used to ride the trails at ure before the 4x4 croud came up there some of the old trails are gone and they got new trails now like danuel when it first opend it was dirtbikes only..

I rocked the Purple Hornies off of long tube Hooker headers on my 83 CJ7. Man that thing was bad ass!

Ahh the memories...first jeep had some Jackman spokes w/ 33" Armstong Tru Trac's...always wanted some Desert Dogs since I first seen em...never owned any though
Bought some Advance Adapter "chrome" fenderwell headers for the Dauntless V6 cuz nobody else made any...had sidepipe glaspax on there...loud & cool man... Had the HECO Steering Stabilizer and Rough Country shocks mounted upside down to fit...
Had the Burbank 3' lift springs and "still" got em today on the White Knuckler CJ5 we wheelin'
Got some Eagle rims out in the Barn for sumthin...not sure what ...also got some 44 Gumbos I'm gonna run soon
had some Cyclone headers on a '68 Chevy truck too..got a few sets of alum slots here cuz they R cool...
Yeah its kinda funny looking through some old mags and seeing the evolution of rigs...but I still like the Ol' Skool :poop:
