Just started a xj project and installed the rough country x series 4.5 inch lift. I planned on keeping the stock wheels that are 15x7. I know 31s will fit but is it possible to run 33s without having major issues? Hind sight is always 20/20! What hind sight do you guys have?

Definitely possible to run 33s with that amount of lift. It all depends on bumpstops and how much cutting you want to do.
I run jk rubicon take offs, like many on this site do, and really like the size. They fit with little trimming, and full up travel.
I don't think standard width (12.5) 33s will fit on the stock wheels, not wide enough, and too much backspaceing.

I think the width would make the 33s wear more in the middle, I think 8 inch wide wheels would be a better choice. And you could always run spacers to help the backspacing.
I would suggest some 15x8 black steel wheels with the correct backspacing as a better option. They are cheap.

you can stuff 34 x 9.50 with the right offset...even 35's of the right profile....

I rode in a 01 XJ 5” on 33x12.50x15 truxxus MT and he daily drove it with great results! Tires hooked up good off-road also and look good either way! I like my cooper st maxx I’ve put a quick 20-22k on em and still have tons of tread need a rebalancing probably!

I am running 4.5 with relocation brackets and 2" spacers up front. will be running 35's and 4.88's

Mind you 33s on stock wheels will barely rub the leafs and will hit LCAs without running spacers while turned all the way. (This is if you run 12.50 wide+ on stock wheels). Especially with those wheels you have, some stock wheels have little more offset but those are none lol.

Depends entirely on backspacing of rims and which axle you have. I loved the 33 x 10.50 on 3" lift combo back in the day. 34 LTB or the old q78's too!

Took the advice to get different wheels and I am glad I did.
