My 18v Dewalt took a crap on me yesterday after many years of good service. Now Im looking into getting a new impact driver. I want something smaller than my 18v but with equal or close to equal torque...

What are you guys using?

How much did you pay? (if you don't mind telling)

( I already have a 3/8 square cordless)

I got the 20 volt lithium dewalt and it is a beast. Batteries last a long time and charge in no time.

We have had very good luck with the Hitachi 18 volt Li-Ion 1/4" drivers.

Our guys use them everyday installing commercial furniture and fixtures.

Lifetime warranty on the tool and 2 years on the battery.

$180 at Lowe's (we use Model 18DS has a bit more torque than other models)

I've got the Hitachi , I've beat the shit outta it and had it for 3 years using atleast 6 days a week. Great product

18 v li ion

I got it on sell for around 125 at Lowe's. Came with a hard case that I've ran over (oops). And had fly 60 feet and land in middle of road when I rolled my jeep.

if you're ballin (And I'm ballin) = Milwaukee Fuel 18V - brushless, 3-speed. I will never buy another brand.

if you're mid-level = 20V Dewalt/ 18V Ridgid

If you're budget = hitachi/porter cable/kobalt

Not to hate but my buddy that does handy man work had 2 Milwaukee impacts fail in first year. He had his dewalt for 3 years now. He compaired Milwaukee to a black n decker quality

Edit I don't know if it was the "fuel" model though

I'm raising my eyebrow at that comparison. However, I bought my combo kit used, had a switch issue and it was covered from the factory warranty, by serial number (and not proof of purchase).

Honestly, they're all going to perform, some just slightly better. I'm sure there will be warranty claims from any of the manufacturers

Dewalt is black and Decker but I loved my dewalt. I picked up a kobalt 18v L-ion combo for 120 on sale at Lowe's. Thanks for the input and we'll see how well it does. It has a 5 yr warranty and is a helluva lot lighter. Wish I could've afforded one of the nicer ones but I'm on a Mac n cheese budget...

I don't know if it was because my dewalt was old or if the L-Ion is just that much better, but the Kobalt worked circles around the dewalt. I'm impressed with it, now what about longevity.....

Two batteries, a drill, impact driver, charger, and nifty bag lol all for 120.00. It was originally around 200.

My work has converted our entire fleet(150+ field guys using these tools) to Milwaukee over the past few years. This was based on a lot of things, but mostly less repair and better value than the dewalt/makita we used to use for all battery powered tools. That says enough for me, because i see these guys beating the hell out of these tools every day.

15 years ago DeWalt was the class of the field. Then B&D bought them and now they are consumer grade in a yellow and black package. Just look at the boxes, I have an OLD 18V DeWalt cordless drill (circa ~97...and both batteries still work) The box empty probably weighs 2-3 pounds. I honestly think I could park my truck on it and until the hinge pin busted I dont think the plastic case would its that heavy duty...then in the name of saving a dollar and maximizing profit...

I use the craftsman 12v lit/ion right angle impact . I like it 10 to 1 better than the standard pistol grip style dewalt ,you can get it in a much tighter place and its half the weight with about the same torque . $90 w/ impact,2batts,charger and carry bag . I've beat on it for around 8 months now with no problems !

I know a lot of people hate on Ryobi but I am extremely happy with mine after a friend of mine who uses one all day long told me about it. He switched from all Milwaukee to all Ryobi and is happy as well. When I am in Guatemala we use them as well and they take the abuse in the jungle in stride.
