My 01 Taurus just started idlilng about 3000 rpm. When you drive it you literally have to stay on the brakes. I've cleaned the IAC motor and I don't believe that is the problem. There is no change if I unplug the IAC so I am thinking I have a leak. I am also wondering if it is the TPS. Anybody ever had a TPS go bad? When one does go bad what are the symptoms? I figured the throttle would drop out instead of rev high when one went bad. What else should I check?

check the wiring to your IAC, check to make sure voltages are the same at the computer and the control. I doubt a TPS, do you have a scanner what is your TPS voltage otherwise back probe it watch it change on multimeter. Does it idle at 3k all the time cold and warm, Check you coolant sensor, does it flood, also check your fuel pressure i have seen bad regulator cause high fuel pressure and fast idle.

Thanks for the help. Turned out easier than I thought. A mounting screw for some sensor had backed out to the point that the throttle linkage would not close all the way.
