Tried to do some research but keep getting conflicting answers. I have a 2000 TJ that has a bad engine. I bought a 2001 wrecked XJ with the assumption that I could put that engine into the TJ, but was told that were the motor mounts bolt up are different. Is anybody heard this?

The motor mounts may be different but that shouldn’t matter if the 01 has a 4.0 and your TJ is a 4.0 you should be able to use your TJ mounts and bolt it in. Not sure about the accessories like ac pump and alternator you may need to transfer them from the TJ also.

Worst case scenario you use the 01 as a long block and transfer everything from your TJ engine to it. It is highly unlikely jeep changed the casting of the 4.0 for XJ so everything should bolt on.

The motors can be used between the two. The xj and tj have different accessory brackets and some other differences but I know tj engines have been swapped in xj's and vice versa. when are you going to pull them out?

I just put a 97 TJ motor in my 96 XJ. You basically just have to pull all of the accessories and brackets off of the XJ motor and replace them with the ones from the TJ. Really, when the motors are both out it is not difficult to do.
