After putting a new front seal in the trans and getting it put all back together I can't seem to find out how this works. I know it just pops on and pops off but it the cable is about a half inch away from where it needs to be. ( linkage is pulled all the way down for "park" and the cable is pulled all the way out. It it also put in park inside the jeep) I've tried pulling out that T clamp and adjusting the cable but it doesn't go far enough..... What am I missing?

I've tried that, it seems to be the same distance away in every gear. I'm positive it's in park, it's really odd being that it worked fine last week

Absolutely positive you have the selector on the tranny all the way forward for park? Looks like it's bolted up correctly.
Got to be something simple. Just had mine out several times and went right back in. To get the actual tranny piece in park take more than you think by hand.

This ^^^^ . I had a similar issue on my zj. Different transmission but I thought I had it in park and didn't. Move the shifter til it will go on then shift back into park. That's what worked for me.

Okay I'll have to do some messing around with it. I know I have the trans in park Becuase I just cranked it up for the first time!! No more trans leak!! As far as the shift cable goes I have no clue imma keep on messing with it.. It's got to be somthing simple

Just be sure to let us know the end result. Nothing worse than a thread that ends with no final answer!
Can't count how many times I've googled and issue, read 3 or more pages for the OP never to return lol

Okay got it figured out, pulled out the console and the clip that holds the shift cable had broken, I don't know how but it did. I managed to get the other side of the clip back on and I put a bead of gorilla glue around the entire thing, I let it set for 24 hours and it works perfectly now! Hope this helps somone in the future

That clip does fail sometimes. I know the JKs are bad about that also.

i could not agree with this more!! this is more frustrating than finding nothing i think...i'd rather find nothing than bunch of unanswered threads!!
glad you got it fixed...that's a odd coincidence to happen at the same time...go figure lol.
