Thinking about getting one for the wife. I only see the 4.7's in them. You guys know any major problems or issues they have. How do the 4.7's last, any first hand experience. Probably looking for something in the 60k - 80K mileage range...... Any info would be appreciated.

Look for one from 05-07. Toyota made some little changes and those years had a little more horsepower and torque. I have a buddy that tows a small enclosed trailer with a porsche inside all over the US and he says it does fine. I have the 4.7 in my 4runner and I am happy with it.

Yea it wouldn't surprise me if they get bad mileage. It's got a pretty small displacement compared to how heavy it is. I guess I'm more worried about reliability than performance. I don't want to buy her something that's known to have a ton of problems. Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming.

Pretty much trouble free. Change the timing belt/water pump every 90k and drive it. The 05-07's do have a little bit more gitty-up thanks to the VVT-i. The only things I sell for them are the rear hatch handles. The secondary air injection systems are beginning to give a little trouble. That's huge $$$ to replace. $2500ish in parts alone. But.... the whole system is easily bypassed in an hour or so and costs around $15 to do it. I've done a few at home with zero problems or comebacks.

This is right on the money. Water pumps leak more than other Toyota's but they should be replaced every time a timing belt is done. Back when I worked at Toyota there were a couple that came in with 300k+ miles on them and ran strong. Its a very reliable engine.

I have a 4.7 4runner and the gas mileage isn't great but they tow well if your not to hurried. They are a small displacement v8 so plan accordingly.
