Hi, I just received a Safety Recall Notice in the mail for my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Diesel. The recall is for the "Left Tie Rod Ball Stud" it applies to 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 1500/2500/3500 Series Trucks. The recall number is "N62 / NHTSA 13V-528." Please check to see if this applies to your trucks as the warning says "This could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning." Thanks.

That sounds like the one for the old style tie rod.

Probably but I received the recall in the mail today for my 06, it does seem a little late in the game. I had the front end checked out pretty good earlier in the year and installed an adjustable track bar, steer box reinforcement kit, new brakes etc. All looked good but I'll have the Dodge Dealer check it out for a little peace of mind. Thanks

I got the recall too. It says dealers can't do anything until after January 6th so so I'll have to wait till then to get mine checked out I suppose.

Yep same here, got to get them Holidays out of the way first I suppose.

I am super pissed about this I came home and had this in the mail as well. I just dropped the coin a few weeks ago to get the 08+ HD steering set up (Inverted T vs the Y steering) and was planning on installing the steering tomorrow on my 06. I know I have 1 or 2 joints which are loose and thats why I am replacing. Since I cannot return what I bought without eating 40% of the costs in shipping and restocking fees I think I am just going to install the new set up I have which is supposed to be night and day compared to stock.

Yep these Companies wait as long as they can and hope there aren't any law-suits and only act when it will cost them more in legal damages than fixing the problem. I probably have $6K in upgrades in mine for various things.

But what I don't understand is didn't they all get replaced already under the previous (two?) recalls?

I know I paid about $400 for the whole 08+ setup on mine, only to get a letter a while later that all of the 05-08 y style ones had been recalled. They sent several notifications about that one, in fact.

When I worked at the dealer and their was a recall for a part that you had already replaced all you needed were receipt showing proof of the repair and possibly let their tech inspect it and then you could file a claim for a refund.

BUCKEYE PERFORMANCE INC. 828-779-2242.

We had this recall performed on all of our service trucks, one of the techs had it done to his service truck and the "new" tie rod snapped as he was pulling into his driveway. I'm pretty certain this isn't going to be the last of this recall.... Wait till you have to deal with the liner shifting in the power steering hose that Dodge knows nothing about..smh

I wish Toyota made a diesel hauler here in the States, I have had seven Toyota pickups with no big complaints, loved everyone of them. My OHV is an 85 PU that refuses to die. I got my Dodge for the Cummins or better yet I got a Cummins with a Dodge wrapped around it, the nit noi stuff and worse never ends. But I actually like the truck.

Which recall? I think there are at least two of them.

Edit: So this latest recall covers the NEWEST T-style 08+ steering linkage. I think that means that all three designs have been recalled.

Edit2: All three recalls apply to the 08+ style steering linkage. The recall numbers are H36, H46, and L13.

So in 2010 I purchased a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 and I have no idea if any of the previous recalls we're completed on my rig. I was planning to tow my Jeep down to Big Creek this weekend but am a bit nervous now that I received the latest recall notice today. Is there any way to identify if my rig has the issue? According to the recall notice, I have to make an appointment for an inspection to determine if my truck is affected and if it is, then they'll fix it. Anyone know what the inspection consists of or how the identify if the recall applies to a specific truck?

I wouldn't worry about it. It's been riding around on that steering linkage for five years, hasn't broken yet.

The only way you know if it needs service is if they inspect it. One of the recalls was for the U-bolts on the steering dampener loosening up (big deal), one of them is for the tie rod end at the pitman arm breaking, and one of them is for the left side tie rod end breaking. It sounded like all of the failures were due to binding from improper installation.

Thanks for putting it in perspective for me Shawn. :) I'm heading to Big Creek on Saturday with it.

No problem.

But if you yard sale your junk and take out a bus of nuns... that's on you. :flipoff2:

See you Saturday.

Uh, since we're caravaning down saturday, maybe I'll hang back a little further than normal, just sayin....someone's got to call the wrecker. :driver:

Got my 2008 Ram 3500 inspected at the dealership this morning for recall N62/NHTSA 13V-528 and all is good. Apparently my steering isn't affected by the recall, at least until it all comes apart running down the highway at speed.

Yep, my ball joints are about shot on my '05 Ram with 105K. This sucks.

While on the topic of this year range Rams, has anyone else had issues with the EGR?

Yeah mine takes up too much space on the shelf in the shop.

I just joined the forum to update ya'll on this. I read this entire thread, and then finally got around to calling my local dealer. He told me that the initial batch of replacement parts was recalled as well, and that he doesn't even have an ETA on when the "good" replacement parts are going to show up. He said that the only trucks that need replacement parts have the steering dampener bolted TO the linkage. If the steering dampener is bolted THROUGH the linkage, the vehicle is safe and there is no need to replace the tie rod end. However, he did say that regardless you should have your vehicle inspected and get the letter saying that your truck was checked out and didn't need repair, regardless of the configuration on your particular vehicle.

Hope this helps!

Oh... and my EGR is just unplugged. I bought the block off plate to remove it.... but heck... who's got time for all that!

Weird... I just noticed that my profile picture was taken in NC. That's ironic.
