My 04 Durango 4.7 has me stumped, for the past year and half when the outside temp is above 90 and I let it idle the temp gauge will go up to about the 3/4 mark. It never actually over heats and it is not low on water.
I have put a new fan, clutch and water pump on it but it still heats up when it is hot out and I let it idle. AS soon as I rev it up or start moving the temp goes back down to half. The real baffling part is if the temp outside below 80 it runs even cooler. (About 1/8 inch below the half way mark on the gauge)
Could a bad radiator cause this issue? I have flushed the coolant twice and it appears the radiator isn't plugged or anything. I don't want to by a $300 radiator unless I know for sure it is the issue. Is there a flow test then can be done to the cooling suytem? By the way it has 155,000 miles on it.
