My friend has a 05 WK with the 3.7 V6. It's dropped a cylinder. May be a bad valve spring, but after I searched online I see they are prone to valve seats falling out of the casting. He's not mechanically inclined & his wife is 6mnths pregnant. Mechanic friends I talked to said this was not an engine to rebuild or fix. The mechanic at the shop they took it to offered him $4k to take it. It's nice, garag kept & only has 115k miles.

Is this that typical? What woul you suggest he do?

4k for a 05 with a bad motor isn't too bad. That's better than auction value. I would look for a good used motor and sell it once its running again. I would then look for any vehicle that didn't have a 3.7 in it.

See if a rocker arm popped off. I used to see that a lot at the dealer on 3.7 and 4.7's. It is due to sticking valve guides. You can pop them back on for the time being however.
I have been into so freaking many of those over the years. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks, ill try & take a look at it tomorrow for him. Could a new rocker be installed & the vehicle be sold under good faith?

Should be able to. See what side the miss is on and pop off that valve cover. It is super easy to remove on a WK. You can just slide them back on by prying against the camshaft. It sounds weird, but you'll see what I mean. Assuming it is the rocker at fault.

The valve spring was in three pieces. One rocker arm was not to be found as I didn't get the valve cover completely off. The spring retainer was missing too. I hope for them the offer still stands of $4k!

From what I saw this is. Pretty dumb rocker arm design just waiting for problems!
