'06 Chevy truck tcase

I need to swap the rear driveshaft u joints in our work truck at the office. When I pull the driveshaft out of the Tcase it's going to dump fluids. I haven't looked too hard at this setup, but I have a coupe of questions.

This is a one time thing, and I'm not going to get a plug for this, so I'll just catch the fluids in a pan. How much fluid can I expect to come out, or how much of an incline could I use to avoid spill if possible?

Also, the tcase fluid is self contained correct? Or does it share fluid with the trans?
 
You could always just drain the t-case. Depending on which transfer case it has, it may just be regular old ATF and I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to change it :-D. However, if you park it nose down enough, you shouldn't lose much...half a quart at most. It's self contained, no sharing of fluids with the transmission. I can't think of any that do share fluid in a GM product.

Also, make sure they give you the right joint for the axle end. Parts houses are notorious for having the wrong one listed as it actually uses a conversion joint if it has an aluminum driveshaft. Both joints are the same size if it has a steel shaft.
 
Ya, I tried looking the part up online and they seemed to be all over the place and not making any sense. I'm gonna pull these and take them up there.

it's not atf, it's special fluid (blue). if you point it nose down you probably won't lose any.

I said ATF as a general fluid...of course, if it's an AutoTrac case it's the special GM stuff. If it's a manual shift case it should be an NP261 and those run ATF.

Is it a push button or manual 4wd? Did you get the right u-joints? If not, I have the part number in the tool box of my truck, I can go get it for you if need be.
