Hey folks,

I have recently encountered a transmission problem where I have a hard shift between first and second gear. I received multiple suggestions on diagnosing it and I took it to Mr. Transmission here in town and they were discussing temp sensor, fluid flush, new filter, and then rebuilding it. It only has 65k miles on it and I am NOT for rebuilding it yet. With the suggestions I received, I have found that when I let it idle in neutral before taking off, it causes it to shift perfectly normal, so upon research I can only conclude that the accumulator has a leak and the fluids get low after sitting for a couple hours.

I can't seem to find any information on how detailed of a fix this is, hard or easy, simple or complex and I am reaching out to you!

Any suggestions or comments are GREATLY appreciated, I am on a tight budget and it is my daily driver.

Thanks!

just so you know, i'm not saying that an accumulator leak is the problem, it was only a symptom/suggestion for what you have going on.

do you park on flat ground, nose up or nose down?

CALLING JODY................. does the 42rle have an anti- drainback valve built in the cooling lines?

depending on jody's answer(if he doesn't know, i will find out for you), i would suggest a shift kit (transgo) it will come with new accumulator seals and tiny wire expanders that fit under the seal to keep them from leaking down.

if it has an anti- drainback valve my first suggestion would be to change it, if it doesn't have one i suggest installing one.

i will try my best to get the info you need before you spend your money. for now i would let it idle in neutral before taking off.

Why not just let it idle in neutral for a few moments before taking off initially? All you're doing is filling everything (laman's terms) with fluid that requires it. It doesn't seem like anything is "broken".

It's parked on flat ground almost every single time, if it's for less than an hour. I have been letting it idle every time but when I leave work the managers don't like to wait 10 minutes for the last employee to leave because I have car problems

Plus I know nothing about transmissions I'm not sure if it's damaging it short term or long term effects and Id like to keep it in as best shape as possible

i wouldn't think it would take 10 min. start off with a minute and see if it shifts better.
I've tried 1 minute, 5 minutes and 10 and the longer the better.

Agreed. If it takes more than just a few seconds to generate proper pressure, there is a problem. I'd like to see the CVI (clutch volume indexes) with a good scan tool. That reading would tell you if there is a clutch leak or point it towards a valve body issue or other leak.
Without those readings, it would be a wild a__ guess.

Where can I go that can get those readings?

What did you end up finding wrong with it @Corigirlloves? I passed you in our Freightliner on 26 earlier...
I've just been letting it warm up every time. I am in need of tires soon these are going bald so I've got to save for those and then try and decide. Have any time soon to check out the front air locker? I think it might just be a leak

sorry, i forgot all about this. work has been stupid busy.
No worries. I have been busy as well and haven't even thought about it this past week besides just starting it early.

It looks like I'll be off Tuesday and Thursday next week
