So I have done some searching on various forums about this swap and there is alot I don't understand.
I have a running 1.6 8 valve tracker engine that I would like to swap in my 88.5 Samurai.
if I swap the entire engine with the fuel injection I will have to modify the wiring harness in the sammi correct?

If I use the 1.3 intake and carb on the 1.6 will I have to modify the Sammy harness at all or will it just fire right up and run.

I have read that the petroworks 1.6 conversion kit is about the best on the market because you don't need a body lift to get clearance for the carb. Can anyone verify this?
and do I need a suspension lift before I swap engines?

Basically I want to be able to pull the 1.6 from the tracker, put my 1.3 intake and carb on it. Attach the petroworks adapter and drop in back in the Sammy. Is it that easy?

Also...what about using the 1.6 and the tracker tranny and t-case in the Sammy. That way I can get the adapter to bolt the Sammy t-case behind the tracker t-case for lower gears. Will it fit?
Thx for the help in advance.

Yes and you will also need the ecm and also account for the difference between the carb and EFI fuel pumps among other things

I've never done it myself but the sammy I have came that way and it looks to be just a few minor splices

This will be one of your best resources. http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/
hope this helps

Thanks. That helps a bunch.
Just debating if I am capable of such a swap and trying to foresee the problems that might incur.
The homemade kicker 3 is definately out my league and wonder if I really need it.
Just trying to get something built that won't break me but is trail ready.
Thanks for your input.

The petro kit is top-notch. Their motor mounts are fantastic, and do make it easier to install without a body lift. The problem becomes the oil pan. The shape of the pan on the Tracker motor becomes an interference point with the front axle if you're not lifted a couple of inches. The solution is either to lift it or install a modified oil pan and pickup tube. Of course, the right amount of money can fix anything. Sean at aftermarket 4x4 can set you up with both the pan and pickup tube and the modified harness to run the Tracker EFI for a reasonable price. You can bolt up the stock manifold and carb, and it will work, but the stock carb is a time bomb. You won't get peak performance and mileage from the motor, and the carb is eventually going to fail, and you'll chase your tail for months before you finally throw up your hands, buy an aftermarket carb, and wish you had just gone EFI to start with. You don't want to try to swap in the Tracker trans and case, this just involves way too much custom fabrication. It's not a bolt-up affair.

X2
The carbs are junk and you will be much more pleased with the fuel injection overall and the zuwharrie blackboard is about the best place for info as said above, using the sami trans and tcase will save a lot of money since the bracketry and driveshafts will stay the same then you can put that money into a lift or a pan to make it work.

Thanks for the input, I did not know that. Mine was already installed when I got it so I never had the issue.

Thx fellas.
I guess first thing is to get it up in the air a few inches to clear the 1.6 oil pan.

Not sure as to whether or not put money towards a myside or aftermarket carb or have the sammi harness modified to run the evi on the 1.6.

Everyone who I have talked to has said nothing but good things about the petroworks kit. So I will use it for the swap.

Pretty basic plan.
Jp eater suspension with missing links front and rear. With stage 1 oft steering.
Swap the 1.6 over with a modified harness to run the efi.
Petrowoks kit.
Set of 31-33 tires.
Chromoly shafts.
Yukon in the rear.
Some armor and I think i'm set.
