Bought a 10 bolt chevy rearend with a posi unit in it, sometimes when the truck gets flexed the rear tire with all the weight on it sorda seems to slip, like it aint pulling 100%, i have also noticed when it does it there is sorda a grinding sound coming from the back, nothing real loud or nasty sounding though, more like a heavy rubbing sound,Any ideas on what it could be? and why it doesnt pull all the time?? Is it something that just happens?? or can it be fixed??Thanks for any info, it seems like no matter what the problem is someone always know the answer or has had it happen to them:). Thanks again guys

Positive traction is a GM term for limited slip differential. Slippage and both wheels not spinning together is normal. As far as the rubbing sound or grinding, the friction material in the clutch packs might be bad.

Auburns are all limited slip, their only advantage is being able to build em with heavier springs for better clutch action. You could have a stock Guv Lock. They are prone to behaving like you are describing because they often break. They lock up using a mechanical device that engages with cetrifical force (ie wheel speed) thus they are small parts and eventually blow-up.

The gov-loc differential detects one wheel turning much faster than the other. It allows some difference so turning is possible without binding or pressure. As wheel spinning increases a governor starts spinning and ingages clutches locking axles together. There is also a high speed lock out, who needs the axles locked when you are going 35mph? It prefers slow gradual acceleration. I had much much success with one, the weak link was the axles which I believe was due in part to driving style. To determine if you have a gov-loc jack up both back wheels in park. Start spinning one wheel, the other one will spin the opposite direction. As you increase wheel speed it will feel as if the brakes are being applied as the governor engages and locks the axles together.

If you have a gov-lok, don't wheel it. They really suck. Mine completely exploded on me and most of the pieces shot through the differential cover. Then I swapped to a 14 bolt in the back and a D60 in the front.
