It happens to all of us. And it's happening to me. 30

I don't dread or fear turning 30. I'm exactly where I want to be in my life. New baby girl. Good career. And I have a boat.

That being said. Obesity is never a fun thing. I have been working hard toward this goal for the last 15 months. I started on my weight loss journey in Feburary of 2012. I started at 240 and as of today I'm at 207. I had a few hiccups in my weight loss. When my daughter was born in October I went from 210 back to 220 and started 2013 at 220. One my new year's goals was to be 200 by the time I was 30. That gave me 5 months. The first few months went pretty good and I'm down 13 pounds. But, I need to put the axe to the grind stone and get to 200.

This is where the 100 Burpee Challenge comes in. This is not a one time thing. This is 100 burpees for 30 days for a total of 3000 Burpees. So between now and the 4th of May I'll be getting my burpee on.

Just for the record:
April 4th: 100-6:18
April 5th: 100-7:18
April 6th: 100-5:40
April 7th: 100-6:20
April 8th: 100-9:30
April 9th: 100-6:40
April 10th: 100-6:47
April 11th: 100-5:35
April 12th: 100-7:14
April 13th: 100-4:56
April 14th: 100-5:25
April 15tg: 0
April 16th: 100-9:15

I'll edit this post as I go to reflect how many I've done.

This will be on top of my other work outs. I am currently alternating between running 3 or 4 mile and doing body weight exercises. Push-up, pull-ups, squats, lunges, core, & curls.

I could have put this on facebook, but I like you guys better.

Some of my other 2013 goals: 24:00min 5k, 1 muscle up, touch the rim.

Yeah i watched it 3 times..

I still don't understand. Are there any more videos like that which demostrate it better or differently?

You are not supposed to do 100 each day. You were supposed to do 1 on day 1, 2 on day 2, 3 on day 3, etc.,
I started at Jan 1 and did it for 4 days, lol. We do burpees at workout all the time. I'm just not doing more than about 30 per day.

a burpee is more of a pre workout warmup to get the blood flowing. Not really a workout in an of itself. I'm assuming you are doing 100 in roughly 6 minutes? thats about 24 minutes short of what you need to be doing. Yes, burpees will help condition your muscles, but unless you have your heartrate up for about 30 minutes your wasting your time. You could be running up the stairs of a sky scraper, or a long hill climb on a bike, or a swim accross a lake. I forget the numbers, but 6 minutes of burpees wont burn the calories like the above mentioned excercises.

Yes, your muscles get pumped up and feel tight from the sudden blood flow
yes, they burn from lactic acid build up
yes, they are tired from oxygen deprivation

but they have not been torn. which means they wont regrow, which means nothing has been accomplished. Strength and size come from the fibers being broken and healing, over and over. a burpee wont do that.

By all means, keep it up. The stamina it takes to do 100 burpees is impressive. Which means, everything else you are doing is working.

If you want to lose weight, the biggest thing is eat breakfast. workout in the morning. instead of 3 meals a day go to 5 fist size meals. LOTS and LOTS of water. No sodas. chicken; grilled. fruits and veggies.

early AM workouts and breakfast do so much to get your metabolism on the right track.

Yea but that is 100 days of burpees. I'll stick to my 30 days.

I really do agree with your Reid. I've been at this for quite some time. I just did the entire 60 days of Insanity and got tired of that. I want more strength and running and less jumping.

The Burpees are really a warm-up on most days and have been a cool down once.

Three days a week: Burpees x 100; Push-ups 4x15; Pull-ups (twentypullup.com workout); Crunches 2x50; Rev. Crunches 1x40; Leg Lifts 1x40; Shoulder Press 3x10; Curls 3x10; Lunges 3x16; Body Squats 3x10; Box Jumps. Mostly all supersets.

Three days a week: Burpees x 100; Run ~3 miles (25-28 min) or ride bike 13 miles. (47-50min)

One day a week: Burpees x 100;

Just yesterday I did my burpees then jumped on my bike a rode for 47 minutes. I had my heart rate monitor on and had an average heart rate of 152 and burned approx. 900 calories. When I do my burpees my heart rate averages close to 145 and goes up to 165ish, only burning around 120 calories.

I realize that if all I did was 6 minutes of cardio that it really wouldn't be of much benefit. But I am just adding the burpees to my exsisting work out. I'm already doing quite a bit of conditioning so I feel that it is a good addition.

The diet and workout timing are also pretty critical. I am just not able to work out in the mornings due to my work schedule. Although I would much rather work out in the morning. It took quite an adjustment to get used to working out in the afternoons.

My diet is pretty good from Breakfast through Mid-afternoon. Lots of water approx. +120oz a day. (Nalgene bottle filled three times)

Just like today. Between work and grad school tonight I don't have time for a full workout. So today is my rest day. I'm going to squeeze in my 100 sometime. I'll take my time and probably do it in like 10 minutes.

Thanks for the support guys.

For the record when I first saw the title...
I thought, "wow, a hundred Slurpees? That guy is my hero."

Still, good for you... but not quite the same :D

If you did the whole 60 days of insanity you are the MAN!!! That is a tough workout. Not many people have the willpower to finish it. Ever try a TRX class or maybe a bootcamp type workout? If you have a good instructor they will push you way harder than you will ever push yourself. Sounds like you're on the right track.

Insanity is just that. My wife is on her second time around. She's making it happen. I am just ready for something different. I'm pretty crunched for time in the spring. I'd much rather lift and run.v I've updated the last few days.

These.... clean and press. it's the men's version of a burpee. When i first got into power lifting, i was coming from a football back ground. I was doing the same basic routines i had been taught by coaches. I had reached a point where i wasnt making any gains.

My trainer introduced me to these. after a month or so, my all around numbers starting shooting up. i saw Gains everywhere. Why no football coach ever told me about this i cant figure out. If you can do these at 225lb 15xs for 3 sets, you should have no problem grabbing an offensive linemen and throwing him over your head for the first play of the game. When you can do 315lbs + 15xs for three sets, you should be able to throw him every play.

we'd run two miles and go into doing these before the workout began. i remember hating them at first, but you begin to love them. especially when you start stacking on those plates.

Those right there ain't no joke. Power clean is a tough exercise. When I was teaching weight lifting at my old job. Lots of kids struggled with the technique. We just didn't do the press. I was worried about kids getting hurt just cleaning. The press would have scared me to death.

Reid, did you power clean before going into that workout?

a 2 mile run and power clean and presses were the warm up. the workout followed and ended with another 2 mile run. leg days sucked!

Man.... this should be a piece of cake....

Oh - wait... I thought you meant 100 Slurpee Challenge.... nevermind.
