I need to get a 12v compressor to keep with me when the wife and I go riding our atv's. Only needs to be capable of pumping up atv tire.

I've seen kits at parts stores and Wal-Mart from Slime that have bottle of slime and compressor and some tires plugs too. It's about $60 I think.

Another option is get a harbor freight 12v compressor and use it. I think they usually sell for around $30. I already have tons of plugs in the shop.

Or I could go with a name brand like valair. No idea the cost on one haven't checked yet.

My main concern is durability. Don't want to need it and it not work. Who has used what and did you like/dislike it.

Thanks in advance.

for an atv tire that runs at what 1-2psi...i might seriously consider a bicycle pump

I'd have to check but I think mine is 5psi. They are 26 inch tires though. Seems like it would take an eternity to fill with a hand pump.

I would stay away from the HF one. Don't get me wrong I like some of HF's stuff but I have always had problems out of their 12v and battery powered stuff. I don't know if it was the super flow brand, but I bought one similar to this from northern and it lasted a long time. It's death was completely my fault, it could still work today if I hadn't left it laying in the back of my TJ to get rained and snowed on.....

Lobeen great. k at an MV50 by Superflow. Theres a few companies making the same pump under different names but there all the same. Great pump for between 45 and 60 bucks and there reliable as hell. Had mine for years and abused the shit out of it lol. Even some people have figured out how to mod the flow for double the cfm.

This.
Bought one of the generic mv50s 10 years ago, has been great for the money. Even comes with a little bag.

I bought a portable compressor like you would see on job sites but it is 12v. Looks just like. Dewalt or similar double tanks portable carry around. Keep it in the camper, use it the other day does just fine running off camper batteries.
Bought thru Eaton Compressor, they don't seem to carry it anymore.

I have been using a HF 12v compressor for four years now to air up my 33s after wheeling. I go from 8 psi to 30 psi on all four tires with no break and it never misses a beat. I did have the internal temperature shut off sensor crap out on me but I was too lazy to take it back so I just bypassed it. Well worth the money in my opinion. I think smittybuilt sells the exact same pump with their name on it.

Here is the link

Considering hard wiring it into my jeep and mount it in the back so all I have to do is flip a switch. Still serves me well.

Glad you're having good luck with it! like I said though, I've not had good experiences in the past. I have all kinds of HF tools, but I steer away from their 12v stuff.

You can get a Viair 88P that will work very well for $65 on Amazon, including 33" truck tires. The ATV tires are easy, they're low pressure and not huge volume, so you could get away with a smaller and slightly cheaper unit but that's not worth it. I wouldn't bother getting something that you can't also use on your truck tires, which is why the 88P (or something similar sized) is a good idea.

Forget about Harbor Freight. A crappy tool that doesn't work well or consistently is just a big waste of money.
