12V Switch question

I have some lights I want to put in to use as back-up lights and double as work lights. I want to switch manually on/off from the drivers seat via a panel I am making. I also want to switch on from the tailgate area to use as a work light. I plan to use a relay as well.

My question: Can the SPDT, On-Off-On, or 3-way switches (whatever you want to call them) be wired like this? Got any schematics? My uglys is at home which might have what I want, but I can't google any of the right shit this afternoon.

OK, got my question answered on another board. I'll be using SPDT "On-On" switches FWIW.

I always just used a standard SPST switch for reverse lights.. push on, and the lights come on manually. Put it into reverse, and they come on automatically.

Thanks Rich, I plan to run dual switches..one in the cockpit and one at the tailgate, so I need the SPDT switches.

I thought about wiring them into the backup light circuit to come on automatically, but right now I do not want these to always come on automatically. These will be installed on my jeep and I see the primary use as a work light and secondary use as an auxilliary backup light.

SPST's will work fine... unless you are trying to get complicated and have them work like your home 3 way's -- turn on at one end and able to turn back off with the other switch.

kiaser,
Well you can call it complicated if you want, but I think its simple....just needed to spec the right switch.......and thats exactly what I aim to do, turn it on in front, off in back and viase versa.
