14 bolt axle seal replacment?

I need to change an outer seal on a 14 bolt this week and just wanted to confirm my theory on how to do it. From what I can tell you remove the bolts on the hub and then slide the shaft out replace the seal and reinstall it all again. Will permatex work or do I need to use a new seal. The truck is an on road only truck. Any help or tricks would be great. Thanks for the assistance.

RTV will work. A new seal would be better... but last time I went looking, the dealership wanted stupid money for them.

You've got everything else right. It's also a decent idea to take the tire off. Not necessary, but it makes it easier to catch any gear oil that leaks out.

My theory was to jack the truck up and lean it over so it would not run out. Well that is the theory though. Thanks for the help guys.

You'll still get some leakage from the oil that's in the hub.
